I'm trying to think of scenarios in which the mane 6 play different roles than usual to be the damsel in distress, but I'm kind of drawing a blank on Twilight/Scilight beyond schoolgirl (which is their usual role). Anybody got any ideas?

Twilight gets wrapped up in a soft situation involving corporate espionage or blackmail. This can be to either keep her at a soul-sucking job or scientific/social project she doesn't agree with but has to follow through on.
