In Feeling Pinkie Keen, Twilight actually didn't give the slightest fuck about science. She just hated Pinkie like hell since the beginning, and hated seeing this spazzing idiot have any kind of power, and ever be right about anything, and everyone following her words. This is proved throughout the episode, especially when they go to froggy bottom bog, when she gloats at the end, and says she wants to see Pie's reaction when she's wrong, she also starts making fun of her twitches.
She only didn't quit caring about it because shitty plot-convenience written episode. Same for the buttmonkey crap. If this was a well written character show then Twilight would have turned Pinkie into a frog and probably fed her to the Hydra herself.
Twilight Sparkle was meant to be more like Dexter, an angry ego-driven genius who naturally hates the dumb character and would send DeeDee to the aliens.
It's too bad that Twilight's politeness and submissiveness to Celestia turned her into a push-around wimp for everyone even since season 1, especially the pilot episodes.
Her well-read eloquent composure is nice, and quite rare for a genius. Twilight's dialogue is much more friendly compared to most indifferent robotic-sounding geniuses.
But actually being submissive and acting like a happy-go-lucky dork ruins her character. If she kept her alpha badass traits then she'd be a great princess, but as long as she still takes orders from everyone she's a fucking wimp who can't order anyone around.
Back in season 1 it would have made some sense if she wanted to take control of the world(take Celestia's place), due to some of her angry genius traits(which unfortunately weren't shown often enough and very efficiently as Pinkie Keen demonstrates). Instead of Twilight developing more into an alpha and everyone obeying her orders without question, she instead turned into a complete push-over, like Fluttershy.

Twilight being an oblivious prick to her friends and obsessing over things she didn't understand was exactly why Celestia sent her to learn about friendship in the first place.
