It's almost like this is the problem with this entire concept for a series and people would rather have seen more Friends Forever or something. Flash Magnus was a character off-handedly mentioned in the series a single time as a historical unicorn who made a friendship spell. Why are we supposed to care about him, much less a character that clearly isn't even him?
The absolute fucking worst in terms of this "mentioned in the show, but not actually the character mentioned in show except for name" is Mage Meadowbrook, explicitly said to be an eastern unicorn but is actually an earth pony. Of course Jeremy Whitley wrote it so it probably will have contrived shit about how her horn is internal or something.

I think Flash's story could've spared a few more panels to occasionally cut back to Starlight and Sunburst. Some of it felt like filler.
Remember Friendship is Magic #40? (The flashback story to when Twilight and Spike first met?) Something like that.

The staff behind of EqG, FiM and IDW already had four years to try fixing Flash Sentry and after all this time they haven't amounted to nothing because they are all incompetent fools.
Flash never had a chance. Same goes with Starlight and her forced meme status because the people behind of her are all incompetent cretins as well.
Maybe with a different creative crew behind of them both characters could have been awesome, but it's already too late.

You know, if IDW was semi-competent, this could be some good foreshadowing if this series and main issues 51-53 do indeed tie into S7 at all. Both their themes are about "myths" from children stories that end up being true.
Makes me think Grogar just might actually be the S7 big bad if his name drop from the kids' book in E3 is any clue. They said "fear gives him power" so it implies the more people who are afraid of him, the stronger he gets; not unlike this alluded monster from the Shadowlock trilogy that seemingly becomes real the more people know about him. Both sound like they are following the Freddy Krueger motif.
