Yes, the first season is kinda shit. But you need to watch the first two episodes to have any idea what the show really is. Maybe watch Winter Wrap Up too to get a bit more of an Idea of how the world works.

Then go from the season 2 premiere on. People also say the season 1 finale is amazing too, but I can't really say the same.

Well, the first two episodes are fairly mediocre when you think about them in my opinion, but they do introduce the setting and thus are a must-watch (also you'll probably not think about them too hard when you first watch them, which makes them decent).
Overall, season 1 is different from the other seasons, but not really better or worse despite what people will say (you may however enjoy one type over the other, which is where all the shitposting stems from), it just plays things more safely and is way more low-key/has very low stakes compared to later seasons. As every season, it has some great, some mediocre, and some bad episodes, so you should just watch all of it in chronological order unless you really can't stand it, in which case you should at least sample season 2.

Also note that the two-parters (premieres and finales) aren't like the rest of the show.

I personally don't hate (most of) season 1. I'd start with the first 2 eps of course, then The Ticket Master, Winter Wrap Up, Art of the Dress, Sonic Rainboom, and The Best Night Ever.
S1E1&2, 3, 9, 14, 16, and 26.
Then go from S2 onward

Ticketmaster and those early ones were just kind of...tepid. Like the writers didn't know exactly what to do with their characters and setting. I think this is perfectly normal for a new show like this. I'd still watch those episodes I do not think they are bad.

I like S1, but the first few episodes are a little awkward, like they're bound to be for any show. The writing in episodes 1-3 especially is bit more direct and less witty then it would get. When I first got on the ride, I kept thinking I was going to drop the show after the next ep until around episode 6.

I started trying to make a list of what to watch in s1, but even meh eps usually introduce elements that get called back to in later seasons, so I'll go with chronological or nothing.

As a Faustfag... I have to agree. I recently rewatched it, and it felt more like earlier generations than anything else I can point to. Hell, I bailed when I first watched the second half for that reason.

But, at the time, I did not recognize the weight of the NMM legend, and most if not all of what makes the characters great is at least present right off the bat, so... add one vote to "finding their footing".
