It could have easily been written by that ice age writer who was a brony as well as been controlled by sony bigwigs into being a pile of garbage. We dodged a bullet.

I know it's not perfect but fuck I'm pretty damn happy in the way everything worked out. I think the trailer really undersells the movie. If you think the evil minion shouting stupid shit is annoying, you have to consider that him saying "Fishman just got dropped" and "Oh I love pie" are completely different scenes. They could have already shown the majority of his one liners in the trailer. Most of the trailer is just a teaser and doesn't outright spoil the big set pieces that are obviously going to be in the movie. We didn't see Storm King in action, only saw a split second of Canterlot being destroyed, and we haven't seen much of the obvious airship and pirate battles. There's so much in this movie that I can see it turning out amazing at least compared to what we got in the show after season 2.

Its going to look better on release. Remember, lionsgate is the ones handling distribution (So the trailer), while the actual WORK is being handled in house by hasbro.

They want to appeal to boys too, but not in a way that will alienate the girls.
They're trying to get the boys as a bonus, not as their main target, be gender neutral. Something like a 2-1 split on boys and girls.

They might try and make a specifically boy themed Guardians of harmony reboot or side series in the future though if the toys sell well (Which they won't. The mane six GOH sold well, but side character toys sold terribly)

I think it'll do okay. It'll get "eh" reviews, make enough money to be somewhat profitable, and provoke endless shitposting on /mlp/ over whether Glimmer would have saved it, if Cosmos' plot would have been better, and which flavor of the month waifu is best.

It won't "save the fandom" and spark a renaissance, but it also won't crash and burn and finally end the ride either.
