I know it's been a while since the last letter, but Sweet Apple Acres has been busier than a beehive after Winter Wrap-Up!
All is well with the Apple family in Ponyville; Bright Mac is working the South field, Granny Smith is preparing for the Zap Apple harvest, and I've been busy with the foals and making preserves.
With Granny getting older, and me busy making sure little Applejack doesn't get into the pigpen again, Bright Mac has been taking on more responsibilities on the farm - a little too much. At one point, he was so tired from all the extra work he was putting in that he almost bucked the outhouse down, thinking it was a stubborn tree that wouldn't let go of its apples. We laugh about it now, but Granny chewed him out something fierce for pushing himself too hard, not to mention his assumption that she's getting old. Honestly, I think Granny Smith will outlast us both through sheer stubbornness. She's kind of like you, in that way.
It's hard work with just the three of us working the farm, but we still managed to pull in a good crop this year. Hopefully, as Big Mac, Applejack and Apple Bloom get older, I'll have more time for hooves-on farm work. Big Mac is always following his Pa around, and Applejack is rarely far behind them, if she's not watching me work and helping out in the kitchen, so I think the farm will be in good hooves for a long time to come. It's a bit harder to tell with Apple Bloom, but I swear, she has some of the brightest, kindest eyes I've ever seen on a pony. Whatever they end up doing, as long as they're happy, I'll be happy.

Of all the mane six, despite AJ never had a decent episode of her own, neither a wide character arch to finish, a home to leave and come back to (Metaphorically speaking), she is, at least to me, the most rock solid characters in the show. She has flaws and strengths that aren't overplayed or turns her to a marry sue, at least it doesn't happens often, and she represents why tradition is valuable.

In almost every episode Applejack does something of value, or direct the group to the simplest solution without over thinking it like Twilight does. Perhaps I'm alone in this opinion, Applejack doesn't need a episode of her own (Even if it would be fun) and neither do I think the writers could develop her without broaching more touchy subject, like death.

Many have been correct in pointing out that she is a set character, she has almost no growing up to do. Her family helped her with that part, her parent's tragedy perhaps may of caused harm to her mind (Her short temper and that she lacks a solid education) and if this has caused her character to go through an emotional growth spurt then what is there left for the writers to do with her? Except playing her off as an background pony or lean-in for the other characters in the show to be helped to grow, that is.

Perhaps the single most important contribution Applejack has is her ability to help others to grow, which she did for Twilight in the second episode of season one.

I don't dislike the banter over Applejack being a background pony, but I do feel somewhat miffed that few identifies her worth without putting a thorn on it.

Heaven forbids too if AJ's goal is in Ponyvile, or does that not qualified for a character arch? I'm sure Twilight can show Applejack how it's done cause she clearly met what whatever goal/dream she personal had before Ponyvile and isn't sitting anxiety at her castle in pure misery at not able to be more proactive in the world around like she could do as a simple student.

Applejack is a character that works in an interesting way, because her story already happened before the show starts.

So unlike other characters where you can see their progress as the series goes (lets say, Fluttershy or Twilight), some Appul episodes go in reverse, showing us a younger pony making mistakes and how did she grew to become the dependable horse we see today. This is also a reason why some episodes when she seems to act irrational feel so weird to her fans, because they are used to AJ being the adult of the group.

I'd like to point what episodes did silly appul right and which ones didn't but I really don't have time for that right now.
