Should they make unicorns mythologically accurate in the reboot?
Their magic would be gone and all they can do is shoot lighting out of their horns and heal diseases.
This would make them more interesting and less overpowered

Usually yes, but there are still some default magics that every unicorn has such as performing telekinesis to levitate and move objects, making protection shields, ability to teleport, ability to transform and freeze objects. And not to mention the ability to learn even more spells

All they had to do was to adhere to the '99% of unicorns only know a couple of unique spells relating to their special talent' more strictly with telekinesis being about as strong as the physical pull of an average pony with few exceptions. Earth Ponies also needed more clearly defined magic. Fancy plant manipulation and/or universal super strength like some fanon would have been fine.

No, that was explained in Boast Busters by Twilight.
The show has kinda thrown away that concept through, now most unicorns are mage-tier.
