Starlight's actual age is irrelevant within the context of EQG. The sirens were around during Starswirl's time and yet they're still physically teenagers. If the princesses went through the portal they'd be middle-aged at most despite being 1000+ year old immortals. Somehow they'd be younger than definitely-not-1000+year-old Granny Smith.

2. It's a cartoon with cartoon logic. Twilight and that dragon chick can be considered examples of younger rulers.

I don't think it would be hard for any aspiring villian to do what Glimmer did, what with ponies being so naive and trusting. The fact that she was a matriarch and had a special hairdo has nothing to do with her actual age. If anything I'd say she's either a year younger than the cast or at the same age. It would make this easier for the children to undersrand what with her being the STUDENT of Twilight. Kids wouldn't get the whole "She's older but I have more authority" dynamic that would spring up due to Glimmer being older than Twilight and everyone else.
