It's a mix of Kazakhstan and Mongolia. Or more specifically the Altai Mountains, which span across both countries. (Conflated with the Himalayas much further south, because that's where yaks live.)

Yaks actually aren't found in Mongolia. They're way down south on the other side of China, primarily in Tibet.

ironically enough, if they were to base the people of a country around a particular animal, then Mongolia would be best represented by horses, not yaks, since their entire way of life was based around the horse.
They eat horse meat, drink horse blood, and ferment horse milk into a sort of proto-beer. it was said they were the greatest riders in the ancient world, and that their people were 'born in the saddle'.
