There's a good number of young boys that like FIM. Honestly, its gotten alot more gender neutral as the show's gone on. The characters are pretty accessible to both genders, there's some good male characters, and overall the plots work well with both genders.

Hell, its why they have the guardians of harmony toys. The only real thing sandbagging the show with young boys is the Stigma of "ponies" and the fact that they still feel the need to plaster hearts over shit in the background constantly.

I don't think they should necesarely try to change something that's good (regardless of heart backgrounds) simply to make it fit with the oposite gender.
