Why is it that so many people in here are so insecure over liking MLP? They constantly write how it's cringe and use self-irony and stuff.
But MLP is just another piece of fiction. Just like any other. It's not special. It's meant to tell stories, like any other fiction. This is where I guess the root lies. People automatically assume that stories that MLP would try to tell are much more childish and less mature than the stories any 'non-cringe' and 'awesome' medium would try to tell. The chain of thought is:
it's about ponies -> ponies are gay -> ponies can't possibly tackle the same themes as my favourite X -> liking ponies is stupid and if I do I should feel ashamed
But the vast majority of popular culture is oriented towards a very vast audience. That means it must have broad and commonly accepted themes, that would be understood both by a bank clerk and a janitor. That means that more often then not, these key themes aren't really going to be too deep and complex. Exactly like MLP or any other show.

Interstellar is about power of love saving the day. People give it 10/10s.
Canterlot Wedding is about power of love saving the day. People would say it's gay and cringe.

The Force Awakens tackles learning to think for yourself instead of being mindless cannon fodder. People give it 10/10s.
The initial Thorax episode tackles learning to think for yourself instead of being mindless cannon fodder. People would say it's gay and cringe.

The Dark Knight tackles learning to remain a good person in a society full of terrible people. People give it 10/10s.
Putting Your Hoof Down tackles learning to remain a good person in a society full of terrible people. People would say it's gay and cringe.

Of course there are differences but the most initial themes are the same and the logical chain presented about breaks at the 'ponies can't possibly tackle X' part and stops making sense.

So why are you feeling ashamed anon?

Those things aren't people

it's a good argument but if you want actual discussion, you've come to the wrong place

>Canterlot Wedding is about power of love saving the day. People would say it's gay and cringe.
Canterlot Wedding is 12/10 and is the best finale this show ever had.

t. fag who loves pretty much everything in this show.

I'm not ashamed about liking the show, and think people who are are fags

The thing is though, MLP has been known to have some pretty autistic/cringe fans and while to fans like me it's all part of the fun, some people take themselves too seriously and would be mortified if someone were to assume they were one of those spaghetti bronies

Because most people here are lonely manchildren, and watching mlp only solidifies us as living stereotypes. It's not about the morals of fiction stories, it's about how others perceive us based on execution of said fiction.
Call me a faggot if it's just me projecting though.

Everyone I knew that was actually half-competent thought that Interstellar was RUINED by the stupid 'love saving the world' plot twist, stupid cop out that destroyed an otherwise decent flick. That and anne Hathaway's dreadful performance. Fucking atrocious.

Sorry OP, but we as a fandom tried this shit years ago and society rejected us.

We just accept the fact that we are deviants, weirdos, creeps, and freaks.

Fighting for what's right is just autistic, cringy and gay nowadays...r-right guys?

If you don't understand the difference, it's autism speaking and you're are an idiot.

I'm not going to read all this garbage
if you weren't so new you'd understand that it's simply because more than half the board are 15-20yo males all fresh from /v/ or /b/
that's all

How is this fallacy called when someone insists on X not requiring proof because it's supposedly obvious despite nothing being automatically obvious in polemics?
>>
>>30226900
It is not about logic or objectivity. This is about an impression that admitting to liking the show makes on an average mind (normie).

It is a bad one. Better keep it to one's self.

MLP has been a thing here of 4chan for over six years, so it seems relatively normal to those who hang out here. But what's normal here is not normal to many folks in the real world. At various times "normal" on 4chan has been CP, goading people to kill themselves or brick their computers by deleting System 32, hacking government websites, fapping to traps and animal torture videos. Most folks would find this pretty deviant.

And that's how most folks react to the idea of grown men obsessed with a show for little girls featuring talking candy colored magical horses. At best you'll be seen as autistic. More likely you'll be suspected of being a pedo or someone who wants to fuck animals (or both). Maybe it wouldn't be all that strange if you're in your 20's and have a job in animation. Even then no one will really see this as normal. People know there's a sexual element to it. They know you probably fap to pony porn or greentext self-insert erotic fanfics. Or if you don't plenty of others like you do. And outside of our little world here people will find that creepy, and find you creepy by association.

had to quit reading you try to hard justifieng this

as an autist, diagnosed, i can tell you that atleast a decent amount of people here are borderline autistic
that's all there is to it
but even we autistic outcast know what cringe is and it doesn't have to do with the show it self, a lot of times at least
