This is my short for the competition entry, I had multiple ideas so i might write the others up and upload them later.

So yeah, sorry if it's shit. Mainly wanted some writing practise and the constraints of a six post story worked well. Or I hope it did to some extent. Second person is hard, man.

So yeah, lay into me, lemme know any improvements and all that shit. Just for reference I churned this much out in about 2.5 hours and did the spellchecking and shit myself. Personally don't think it's up to much but hey, maybe I can learn from it.

The these threads were created because someone wrote something worth sharing, and they stick around because you leeches want to see them continue.

No one is going to have a casual chat on /mlp/ because it's not the place for it, but from experience, gathering the community together only leads to more green, not less.

When people are actively engaging with other people on a daily basis, it keeps them involved and instills a sense of duty. Existing writers are less likely to abandon projects when they spender time interacting with others, new writers are more likely to pop up when they have a group of others to give feedback and guidance on WiPs, and new lurkers are more likely to stick around when there is a large flourishing community for them to join in.

But a lack of -subject relevant- casual chatter DOES kill the thread almost as fast as lack of green - as you can see here. 95% bumps and shitposts.

If someone had something relevant to the thread topic to say, it might reignite the thread, at least for a little while. But if even THAT is moved to some chat room somewhere, then we're all left with nothing, people will get bored, the thread will sink before anyone finishes their green, and without a thread, the writefags will say "I guess I don't need to finish my story after all." It's the normal life-cycle of the general, and a chat will only accelerate the process.

If that's the case, we might as well delete the board. Casual chats loosely grouped into threads by topic, with the added ability to easily share media, are basically 4chan's entire purpose. That's the main difference between 4chan-style and Danbooru-style imageboards.
