G5 may never happen. G4 could persist indefinitely. But in a natural ever-evolving way.
Glimmerfags shitpost about NEW MANE SIX all the time but it feels genuinely possible. And I'm okay with that. As I likely would be should they all go through 4+ seasons of development and are succeeded in turn. MLP's spent so long building this world & its mythology that I'm more invested in it than I am any individual character.
Marvel Comics became the juggernaut it has because way back when, they had the novel idea of letting characters grow & situations change. Over time they slowly drifted away from that, but just before the 90s hit there was a real chance of Reed Richards retiring, Iron Man remaining a black guy, the New Mutants becoming the X-Men, etc.. The Marvel brand itself was strong enough to keep the stories exciting and the setting appealing, but the people in charge were fanboys themselves & would constantly reset things to suit muh 'stalgia.
Maybe a Faustfag will climb his way up DHX Studios and pone will go the exact same way. Maybe with the same longevity that Marvel/Simpsons/NickToons enjoy, even. But I believe this show's gone on as unprecedentedly long as it has because it keeps moving forward instead of running in place.
