Not that anon but the episode is a subversion of the generic strong girl in an oppressive world plot. Ember is the classic girl who wants to to prove she can compete with the boys in a sport/event/competition etc. But instead of going that route, they instead include female dragons already competing it. The conflict involves her overprotective father not wanting her compete rather than it being all the boys shitting on her for being a girl.

Not only that but it tells this story of the harmonious team between Spike and Ember where you just get a feeling that the writers actually understand the proper way to depict gender relations without pissing off every political side. The ending is especially indicative of this where Ember has zero animosity towards holding back the others while Spike gets the Sceptre. And Spike is happy to hand it back over to her. It's an episode that shows that genuine spirit of an ideal world that was so present throughout season 1.

I'm really disappointed in the latest seasons of both SU and MLP. MLP has become a generic kid's show, and SU has become the tumblr show it always trod the line of becoming. It's a real shame, SU was really good before when it wasn't quite so fist-down-your-throat "GURL POWA!!!1!" The messages that used to be neatly woven into the lore of the show have just become blatant virtue signalling.
