I have this idea, supported by not much of anything, that the "little ponies" on the show are Shetland/Falabella sized--the smallest pony breeds that don't get a bit grotesque and disproportionate looking and still have a bit of the grace and beauty of horses about them. And I have it in my head that Celestia herself is at the very bottom end of the technical classification for "horse" size, the size of a petite adult Arabian or thoroughbred mare, 15 hands at the shoulder, about 7'4" to the top of the head, not counting a foot and a half of horn, and maybe around 800 pounds, with Luna being just a little smaller. In my headcanon the show is full of artistic license and cartoony exaggeration, running more on "rule of funny" than logic. I freely admit this has zero basis beyond what I want to believe I'm seeing and what seems to make sense to me when I think about it, rather than counting pixels. The ponies, after all, were designed by Lauren Faust, who did similar cartoony exaggeration of humanoid figures for The Powerpuff Girls, right?

I have to wonder how much alcohol content fermented apples can get up to, and how much it would take to affect a (small, petite) horse significantly. That gets into calculus curves, rate of consumption vs. metabolism, and does a living goddess metabolize alcohol faster than humans do?

I have read that in veterinary science, there's a long list of sedatives and analgesics that are safe for horses, but which humans react badly to, and vice versa. (you can't give horses morphine; they go absolutely bananas. a sedative used for horses, phencyclidene, causes hallucinations and a state the medical textbooks call "excited delirium" in humans). So it's certainly plausible that there could be significant metabolic differences where alcohol, and fermented stuff, is concerned.

One wonders if the ponies have discovered recreational drugs, and what exactly "cider" contains and how it is made.
