Celestial Advice was nothing extra but it was still better than the McFlurry ep we got this week. CA moved the plot somewhere, we got some fun from the flashbacks and some insight into Celestia. It wasn't much, but it's something. Flurry ep was empty, shallow. The only thing I enjoyed was Spike being the voice of reason again, if you want to call it that.

I realized something.

It would've been more appropriate in earlier seasons but there's still something to explore in Canterlot. Rarity mostly visited it for business and celebration while Twilight lived there casually most of her life. I think they see the city pretty differently and they could play off that. But the high society thing was explored in S&E and the business thing in Canterlot Boutique. And both could've been proper Raritwi episodes but there weren't. Princess stuff is also out of question by now. So obvious plotlines out of the way I don't know what they're left with to choose from.

They wasted all their best premises already. As anon said, CB and S&E used the two most reasonable angle for it. Something like a diplomatic mission could be used, but we had the shitty Yak episode for that. Twilight easing in into being a princess was never even recognized (same with her being taught to fly). Using Twilight for the star power was also in CB.
They can still surprise with something unusual and fresh, but fresh doesn't seem to be in this season.
Personally I wouldn't mind just them two walking through Canterlot with Twilight telling stories. Or perhaps revive the Castle of Two Sisters in the Everfree, again. Get me some history and lore, I'm thirsty.

In Flurry you had Twilight somehow not managing to visit three locations in Ponyville, pick up three things and go to the hospital in three hours. There's really no plot, for 15 minutes we are just moving from one location to another without any conflict and then at the end Flurry loses her horsenip toy, but it gets found in like two minutes. Flurry juggles between being a ordinary dumb child and someone socially aware more than many adults are, depending on what is needed from her.
Spike and partially Shining with Cadance were good, but I was not impressed with Twilight and the toyetic babby still grinds my gears. Pinkie was pretty good, too, but she had a really minor role. What a shame.

I found the Twilight-Celestia interaction to be fairly natural. Twilight is prone to letting her imagination get the best of her, and Celestia is patient, so she'd listen to the whole thing.

I don't buy the M5 being close friends before Twilight arrived, especially with episodes like LBYS or the Gilda ep which shows the respective ponies working out their relationships. Sure they knew each other, Ponyville isn't exactly big and Pinkie makes it her mission to know everyone living there, but they had no reason to all be really close and I don't think anything in the show supports that claim. Sure, individual pairings like AJ and Dash, perhaps Fluttershy and Rarity, so on, but not the whole group together. Where in the first episode is it shown they are all friends? Twilight visits each one separately, they attend Pinkie's welcoming party, and since all five befriended Twilight they come to her when shit comes crashing down. I don't recall a single line of dialogue or anything really that would imply they were all friends before the show.
As for the fights, I've never said they can't happen, stop being silly. But if AJ's single defining trait is making Rarity so angry she can't stand being in the same room with her, that doesn't really scream "oh yeah they are close childhood friends who know each other well".

There was the time AJ tried to get Spike away from her even though most of his help was annoying at best. Although that was a bit different. Rarity seemed pissed that she was stuck alone with Ponks in the episode with AJ running away, and they all flipped out at too many Ponks because of how annoying she was in multiple doses. The S1 finale had everyone disgusted with her. Point is Pinkie annoys most people when she spends extended time with them.

Sweetie steadily improves with magic though if I recall correctly there's been no talk of Twilight time ever since the episode, and Rarity surely knows about it. Speaking of which, I'm wondering if she ever will find love. That's one thing that's kind of missing from her arc - she is one of the only ponies (so far, in FiM) that has really expressed interest in romance. I'd be fine if, near the end of the show, she finds a love interest.

A common topic is that several characters have finished their personal character arcs, but I think this is something she could still pursue. Twice now, she has fallen for stallions, then was disappointed when they didn't live up to her headcanons. Maybe they could do an episode about her learning to be more realistic about love.

One just leads to another, nothing wrong with sexual thoughts if your love predates lust.

I don't think this show will get a sustained m6 romance at all. Maybe if they're desperate for ratings when the show is finally going into unrecoverable decline. Even then I doubt it would happen.

Anyway if some pony is to get a real canon lasting romance plot I'm sure it's gonna be Twilight. Rarity so far haven't gotten any development so I think it's for this reason she's safe. You'd have to introduce a completely new male character in the show to pair her with and that's not that easy. You'd have to focus on it, make more than one episode about it, and that's not what they do with the characters.

Meanwhile it's easier to do with Twilight, plot-related reasons can bring new characters. Like that Shadowlock fag or whatshisface from the comics. Tied to the plot, easy to focus on. God forbit it happens though, I won't stand for this shit.

And if Rarity is gonna be shipped with someone, it's probably gonna be someone like Trender 2.0: interested in Rarity editon. And that's disgusting. All the romance options in this show are, really.
