This is where you are weak. In destroying Glimmerfriends I would lose more than I gain, so what's the harm in befriending them? Oh no, some people that already hate Nyx and always will, will frown on me harder and use it as an argument.

Think of it this way
Rival Glimfriends = A rare chance at respect which will be forgotten once The Game stops being fun

Is this why people hate past sins? I hate it because it is THE most by the numbers fic conceivable. I am not exaggerating when I say you can predict the entire fic from the first 3 chapters.
