That's part of it. Part of it is that, in this particular 'verse (the author is prolific and writes lots of stories set in it), Celestia and Luna have set roles that they play. With hostile countries or hostile ambassadors, Celestia is Good Cop. Luna is Bad Cop. Etc. The nice one who asks politely, then the one everyone's afraid of, etc. In private--when they're not pranking ambassadors, they can both be pretty sarcastic, but they're also both smart, tough, tough-minded, and play the long game with a perspective available only to immortals. Half of the episode could have easily been devoted to more of celestia and twilight's relationship (and the common elements between twilight and starlight) without havng to include the "Discord makes twilight panic about sending glim glam away but in the end she doesnt want to go" plot.
They even briefly talk about the exact subject before celestia walks off and discord shows up to spawn the pointless conflict.

I agree that it could easily be done without the forced conflict. Honestly I think it's Twilight's fantasies and the entire Discord segment are the weakest elements here. Discord could've been written off completely just by having Twilight worrying from the start and wanting to speak with Celestia, and the imaginary segments could've been shortened. Instead they should've focused on the actual advice, the hardships of being a teacher and the responcibility it brings, as Twilight is obviously not ready for it. It could've been such a deep bonding moment between those two, something I was aching to see ever since S1. Why are alicorn princesses so pretty, /sun/?

I think it may be because the normal (so to speak) ponies are already so cute, with such pretty eyes, though their proportions make them look more like cats than horses or ponies.

The Princesses combine that with aspects of several animals that humans generally seem to find aesthetically pleasing. The Princesses look a lot more like horses than any of the "normal" ponies do. But there's more than that. There's gazelle in them, even swan. If a wild animal existed that looked like this they would be extraordinarily beautiful. But they're also intelligent, thinking, reasoning creatures--and women. HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNG

It's like those experiments that have been done with certain bird species, where a bird will ignore its own eggs when presented with a fake one that's bigger and has brighter versions of the same markings on it. They call this "supernormal stimulus." Celestia (and Woona and Pinkbutt too) are like this for me--they're everything that's beautiful about a human woman, but more so, with additional features that give them an eerie, elfin, fey, unearthly aspect that leaves me just agog. I don't know whether to worship them or fuck them. Or both.

Finally, they have a few people who absolutely despise the discord chat. They shout and scream every time it's brought up, and they shout and scream when it isn't brought up. They call the writefags who use it (for proofreading, idea bouncing, etc) "worthless faggots" and "attention whores", and I can confirm as a former writerfag who was involved with that business that these people and their abuse were a huge contribution to a number of them leaving.

I have never seen a thread that is so viciously hostile towards its writefags.

Hi. I'm searching for a particular Celestia fic.

Celestia goes on vacation--in our world, as a human. She goes to Hawaii. She meets a guy in the hotel bar. They go on a date or two. They hit it off and and they make the Pony with Two Backs, repeatedly, resulting in the Royal Chimes getting rung real, real good for the first time in a few decades. She gets emotionally attached but due to miscommunication, and not fully grasping all current human social norms of the time and place, thinks (incorrectly) that he isn't interested.

Sunbutt's vacation is over. She goes back to Technicolor Hoers Land but is heartbroken and weepy and mopey.

Moonbutt can't stand it any more and goes into the world of dreams to find the guy who boinked her sister, then finds him IRL, appears in his bedroom in her full terrible winged unicorn pony glory, yells at him for being a jerk and breaking her sister's heart, then grabs him by the scruff of the neck, drags him to Pone World, and throws him into her sister's bedroom.
