Dash is tough because her competitiveness and constant need for the spotlight and applause can easily make her come off like a cunt when the writers get careless with her. Sonic Rainboom was one of the best episodes of the show, but MMDW was one of the worst. Dash is harder to write for than Rarity.

Flarity is like S1. It's a bit vanilla, it's comfy, it has good vibes. Fluttershy and Rarity was a really girly pair, you can't base big adventures around them, you can't have map sending them to fix some dire friendship problem. They are not opposites this show likes so much. There's no obvious confrontation to be had other than a bit of a fashion/style one and that was explored in SfS and GIYC already. The show moved from that kind of thing. It's a bit similar with Twirity which doesn't even have episodes. You can't write tons of "she does the opposite and hilarity ensues" with these kind of pairs without it being a bit unnatural and OOC. What you need is to carefuly explore what makes them a pair in the first place and have a plot based on shared interests where both parites are equally invested in solving it. It's just too much work, let's put Pinkie with her so she can be obnoxious and that's the joke, or even have another Rarijack episode.

Dash has had more moments where she is the focus and the one to learn a lesson and far fewer where she's the support for someone else who struggles. While she has the foundation for good chemistry (prank friends with Ponk, book-buds with Twilight, supporter for Fluttershy, friendly Rival for AJ and has some girly moments with Rarity), they're not delved into thoroughly enough.

mentioned, the writers also tend to go a bit overboard in exaggerating her negative traits more often than needed (even though she does come out better for it at the end). I would have loved to see her give flying lessons to Twilight and to have had her play more of a role in Hurricane Fluttershy in helping Flutters mare up to get involved, for example. I just really want to see Dash's positive traits help support others more.

I do agree that her goal driven climb through the season and her gradual maturity chalks her up as my personal second favorite episode-wise, though. Even when I disliked episodes like Newbie Dash, I still find enjoyment in her progression and admire her for very similar reasons to admiring Rarity.

Secondly, and more importantly, no the show doesn't need to fall back on odd couple tropes forever. You can still have very similar minds who still disagree on something to bring tension in a story or you could have them work together to fix a problem someone is having in there own way.

No shipping implied, just how the show pairs ponies in the episode. Just easier to abbreviate it, pay no mind.
And it's not bad that the show moved on, it's just different now. And I definitely want them to highlight more obscure interactions because they can get pretty deep if written properly. It's just that minor, subtle differences in characters are harder to get and write than polar opposites. Feels like the show currently isn't exactly handling anything with subtlety.
As for Flarity itself, it's been dead for such a long time I wouldn't mind seeing an episode based around them again now, at least to see what the current staff can do with them.
