Dash has a fragile ego and deep inside she's afraid to fail. She cares a lot what others think of her and she craves positive evaluation. She thrives under stress but when things get a bit too personal her bravado can crack. It's easy to exploit this for a writer who doesn't fucking know all this was from season one and we moved from this characterisation like 4 years ago.
Don't forget we also get an episode about Fluttershy learning to be assertive again. And Twilight acting like a sperg over unrealistic expectations she sets for herself. Because they are original like that.
