Have you ever actually talked to him? He has said it at every panel he has had, and every livestream he has had, and chats about it when it's brought up on the HCC discord server.

He makes it very clear. He tells people that money is an issue all the time. But he also says he does it to make it very apparent to the many people who over sensationalize being a YouTuber. Don't ever do it for the money, don't ever expect you can make it big enough to make a living off of YouTube, don't do it for the popularity because there are people who will always dislike your content or person. Do it for a hobby, do it for comradery, to build skills, and build relationships. That's what he values more than the payout he gets. He made a post in the /mlp/ plays thread a few days back thanking them for letting him do a video. The thread is still up.

Of course you probably won't care. You're seem more interested in wrapping up some semi-popular YouTuber in your black box to try and understand him to make you feel better. But I agree that many people are in content creation for the wrong reasons. But don't just assume everyone is like that. Weimers has shown otherwise by the way he acts at cons, how he prioritizes time to hang with fans he actually calls his freinds, and how he responds to genuine criticism on his videos.

How do I know all this? Simple, I took the time to get to know the person behind the content. If you check his about page, his info is all public for a reason. You might want to use it.
