Just keep on practicing, and try to focus on simply enjoying drawing now rather than just worrying about when you'll finally be "good". You'll get there eventually.

>>29708067

You don't have to show your practice to anyone if you don't want to, I'm pretty sure no one actually does that. I cringe at my own shit way more often than not, and I still keep going because I know I just gotta keep it up if I wanna git gud.
Pic related, I was trying to draw gopnik pone for the OC challenge. I trashed the entire thing five times before I even managed to get a Pose that I was even remotely happy with, and the anatomy is still beyond fucked. I think I spent a good two hours just trying to get it to look somewhat right and it was pretty damn frustrating, but I'm happy that I kept going instead of just quitting.

On a sidenote, could anyone give me some pointers on how to fix this?

>>
>>29689468
I just noticed that you, Saby, made an paintover demo for my work - thanks! And I'm sorry I didn't said that sooner - I'm not on /mlp/ everyday. I hope that you don't feel like your work isn't appreciated - it is. I'm really glad that you also pointed out tips about cell shading - it will be very useful for my next drawing.

Thanks again.
>>
>>29708417
>That's the hardest part.

Well yeah, it's not like you can somehow simply bring yourself to enjoy something. For me it often takes a bit of time just doodling until I start getting into it. Don't force yourself if you really don't feel like it though, that'll only needlessly frustrate you. Don't make it a chore.
>>
>>29708905
Its different for some. Although sometimes you must make it a chore just to get good. Its not like your always going to be at peak condition. Although really to a degree you are right, but its kind of like a mental game to want to draw and stay that way progressing as learning can be daunting at times. It should probably be looked at as a pursuit as you can only get into theories so much if your not practicing them. Breaks and reminders of ambitions are a thing too.
>>
>>29709088
Oh, definitely, discipline plays a very big part in progress. What I meant was that you shouldn't make drawing /feel/ like a chore, like something you have to get out of the way before being able to do anything else. That kind of thinking can take a lot of the fun and enjoyment out of it for many people. I agree with you though, well said.
>>
>>29709088
>>29709366
Sometimes you have to spend time grinding it out. I don't have much free time (certainly not 8 hours a day) so there are days that it does seem like a chore. There's also lack of direction in learning and not knowing when you should move to something more challenging. That can be discouraging for some people, I know a guy who outright dropped drawing because of that. I'm personally not bothered by it, but then again I'm still learning basic stuff.
>>
>>29709442

I feel the problem stems from being an adult. Once we become an adult we tend to think that we should be able to pick up on things easier. While that's true to some degree I feel that a lot don't realize just how much work has to be put in to "git gud" at drawing. Most just see it as either this childish thing someone does or they see it as something only "talented" people do.Talent can only take a person so far. They're going to need to grind the mileage and study at some point if they want to take their art to the next level. Once a person realizes *that* they either quit or step it up.

The type of person that draws all the time and tries to improve themselves are going to over-take the person who has a more innate ability to illustrate but they don't draw as much. I always imagine a person who is just slightly below my skill level. And if I stop drawing for a day that person will over-take me. That's my motivation.

I dont have a lot of time either. I barely have 2-3 hours at most a day to crank out drawings or study. But I think about almost constantly, even at work when I have moments to myself. I can observe the world around me without a pencil in my hand. Sometimes I carry a small, 3x5 notebook with me to jot ideas down. Drawing is about observation and we can observe ANY time.

>That can be discouraging for some people

The prospect of "you're going to have to draw a lot in order to get good" is pretty enticing, actually. I look forward to a life-time of this. Honestly if you ask yourself, "Do I see myself doing this 5 or 10 years from now?" And the answer is "yes," then you're all set, honestly. There is no doubt you'll do amazing things if you have that cemented into your brain already.
>>
>>29709589
>Once a person realizes *that* they either quit or step it up.
My plans to stagnate until i can get to retirement ^:3
>>
>>29709589
I wish I had motivation like that. I guess they don't say that you have to be passionate to succeed for nothing.
>Do I see myself doing this 5 or 10 years from now
I can't plan for that long, 10 years ago I didn't see myself watching MLP and trying to draw yet here I am.

- head is oversized for the body
- front legs undersized for the body (mitigated but not fully fixed in redline)
- hind legs oversized for the body
- forelock off model: think of FS's forelock as a mohawk that's suuuuuper long and curves off over one side
- if you want the hair covering part of the face, be bold and make it clear, an overly timid overlay will just look like awkward facial structure and/or a mistake
- a slightly V-like pose is more natural for the forelegs in this position
- the thigh and gaskin are notably flatter in shape when seen from the front or back, if this is forgotten the leg will look misaligned in many poses
- overlap and enhanced curves make the tail look far less flat and veil-like

I haven't been to /mlp/ in a while but I can't stop coming back mostly because of cute ponies and horse puss. I'm no artist, but I'm pretty good at editing to the point where I used to animate still porn pictures. I also used to make poorly animated gondolas from scratch when that meme was hot. The point is that I want to start drawing but I'm not sure if I should learn it "classically" by drawing everything from scratch on paper or continue cheating using selections and brushes on gimp. I also don't know which drawpads are good or how to hook them up so I can start working with them.

tl,dr I'm a complete newfag that only knows how to edit
>>
>>29711910

it doesn't matter what tools you use if you can't draw. whether its with paper or a tablet

there are no shortcuts to drawing. start drawin circles m8

Whoops forgot to type out the rest of that sentence. Was pretty tired.
But if you take as much time as you need to get this part done right without jumping forward too hastily, the rest of the painting will come out more smoothly.

Adding onto that, aside from still lives you can also do studies of low poly 3-D prints.

This gets me everytime yet i know it must be done.

>>29711910
Id reccommend partnering up with a couple of artist and just become an animator but, it is best if you can draw.
>>
>>29711967
>>29712000
Eh, I guess I have to take the long way. I'll start drawing on paper for now and start drawing models when I figure out the drawpad
>>
>>29712087
There is no short way or long way to gittin gud, mate. There's only the longer way, which is the roundabout path people take when they think there is a short way. Stick to your guns and you'll be making those gains in no time.
>>
It's absolutely infuriating knowing the theory behind drawing and then failing to draw a proper whatever. After I finish anything I find it to be a crude, uncanny valley, facsimile of whatever it is I'm practicing to the point where I feel awful for even trying.

I'm still trying but god dam do I hate everything I draw.
>>
>>29712319
Just keep working it until it looks good. If you don't know why it looks like shit, erase it and do it again until it does if you're doing it traditionally, or if you're doing it digitally make an "insecurity" layer and reblock the shape in to fix it.

Look at Ruan Jia Or John Singer Sargent for inspiration on that. Digitally, Ruan Jia will keep repainting over his pictures if it doesn't feel right. Even if it takes 500+ hours. When they did X-ray scans of JSS paintings they found 8 layers of shit paintings under one of his better pieces.

( HEY GUYS! I'm sorry I'm so late to the party, I was traveling the last two days and only just got online. )

SO! The contest is now closed! Thank you everyone who participated! I'm putting the polls together now and once they're up, you can vote until Saturday at some time I'll tell you about later. Great job everyone! I am so happy to see all the creativity in here! You all worked hard and you should feel good about yourselves. (Pic related was the OC I made, Blue Velvet)

At the moment I STILL NEED ** BAPHOMETPOSTER ** to repost your 2 pieces with a tripcode or you cannot win a prize if you win!

To everyone else, I figured we'd do the emotion chart if that's fine with everyone? I'll post rules and such for that in a second.

>>29707597
Hey I like seeing you playing with different media. Good job there. Also is this for the contest? If so can you post a tripcode with it so I have that for the poll? If so I need to know like, right now, otherwise I can't put yours in.
>>29711292
Thank you for helping the thread, Saby!
>>29712319
You just have to be patient. You think the better artists didn't spend years perfecting what they're doing? People spend their whole lives gittin gud and might never enjoy their own art. You just have to realize that you're going to go as fast as you'll go and that's fine. Don't compare yourself to others when it comes to that stuff. Just be open to help and learning the fundamentals.
>>
>>29712727

** HERE IS THE POLL: http://www.strawpoll.me/12575712 **

Vote for whomever you want. You can vote for one, you can vote for two, or you can vote for them all, I don't give a fuck! The prize will be revealed after voting ends. You all did great! Good luck everyone!
>>
>>29712851

Okay guys, I'm fucking exhausted, but here's Challenge #5 (The contest wasn't a challenge, technically). It's the expressions challenge. Feel free to use your new OCs, any of the past palettes, only do the ones you want, or whatever!

CHALLENGE #5: Drawing Expressions!
So for this challenge, I found 3 different levels for the challenge!
EASY: (pic related) Fill out 8 expressions!
MEDIUM: (Will be the next post) Fill out 25 expressions!
HARD: (will be posted after medium) Fill out 60 EXPRESSIONS. This is easily the toughest one, but I know there are some of you that can do it!

I'll be joining you guys on this later! Have fun! Goodnight thread~

>>
>>29713671
Why are you implying that's a bad thing?
Every book about fast learning will tell you to practice one subskill at a time. It's a good thing that you're dividing sketching practice and rendering practice like that.

Similarly you wouldn't learn how to play a song by trying to play the whole thing at once - it's easier to learn one part at a time and then learn to play those parts together.

>What should I do!
Stop looking for excuses and go back to work.

>>29713671
You're not a professional, so this is all on your own time. I had the same problem some years back. I focused on coloring other people's lineart because mine sucked so much. Really all you have to do is man up and sketch. Practice straight, long, smooth, confident lines and you only get that through practice, my friend. Try gesture drawing, or watch people and draw them as they go by somewhere public. Or just draw a regular ol' pony and do your best to ink it. We will always help you if you need it and if you end up doing ^this feel free to post it :)

I've never done something like this so might as well try. But I don't think it will work for me. If I start coloring I will do it intil I finish. I just cannot stop, do other thing and come back. That is why I sketch all the time and not color. I don't want to stop sketching but I want to start coloring... I have to find some balance.
>>29714091

Don't say you can't until you try! If you say you can't then you won't and I believe you can do it because I was in the same position and I did it and look at me! Now I'm drawing ponies, hosting contests/challenges, and helping others learn to draw! What I'm saying is that you should spend like 3 hours in a row, for example, sketching, learning anatomy, and working on your linework. Then, the next day or whatever you can spend an hour/hour and a half coloring other line art. Please at least give it a try. Give it a try for me :< I, and my helpers, work so hard to help you guys~ [/guilt trip] Oh, also, if you're interested a year or two ago I made some coloring pages. I'll link them here:

When two characters overlap, should you draw the character in the back first?
>>
>>29719765
the order doesn't matter, just make sure you draw both figures fully to avoid things like missing limbs

depending on the composition it can be more beneficial to draw in certain parts of each pony
>>
>>29719765
Well you should set up your perspective first. What I would do is sketch them both first (obviously), draw the one in the back, then draw the one in the front. Make sure they're on different layers of course (I know I shouldn't have to say this but sometimes people just forget, you know?) and make sure the pony in the back isn't being completely blocked
>>
>>29719803
Sorry, I probably should've mentioned this is with pencil and paper so I can't really use layers at that point.
>>
>>29719809
Yes you probably should have, ha. Then I'd still draw the back pony first and like saby said, I'd also draw both figures fully but very lightly, especially the back one, until your sketch is done; then you can decide which parts/lines you need

Anyone wanna tell me what's wrong with my hair/headwrap? I feel like it should be in front of the ear but it looks weird. The bangs should probably go under the wrap but this looks cuter.
>>
>>29720939
Methinks the main thing is how in the jaw/chin area the wrap doesn't bend/bunch up forwards to give way to the throat. Result: wrap makes head look like it's severed and floating.

Other thing:I like the somewhat asymmetric tilt on the wrap's position around the head (looks more secure) but if the side she's touching is the one that's hurting, then the wrap should be passing the other way around, i.e. be more covering on the hurting side. Also I see no bulge from ice bag.

Knot ears could easily be somewhat larger for clearer readability and enhanced QTQ.

Not related to the wrap itself, but the head is ever so slightly too far back on the neck and the thigh/gaskin units have a notable size difference that's not explained by angle difference.
>>
>>29720984
Well the thing about the pain is that I drew this because I'm getting root canals today and my mouth hurts in more than one place. I just thought it was cute to put the hand there. I don't know what you mean by knot ears. I agree about her head being too far back. It was actually a bit larger too and the thumbnail looks like I need to make it smol again. I also don't know what a gaskin is, but the right leg is going to the side so I gave it a little foreshortenin'. I did actually make the left thigh bigger before but if it needs more that's fine.

I know this sounds stupid but the pain isn't on that side, it's one of my front teeth and one of my bottom left so that's why it's on that side. I like how you fixed the arm and chest, but I like my floppy leg because she's supposed to be leaning a bit, but I'll still try it. I'm not bothering with the hair probably
>>
>>29721352
>which side
sure, I drew that not knowing of the details

>floppy leg
sure, just be careful with the outline shape and the lines that cross inside of the silhouette, to avoid the megaham effect and hint at the gaskin being present

There's something off about his head in most of these but it's hard to pick out. The one at the top in the middle without antlers is a bit wall-eyed and his muzzle makes him look a bit like Homer Simpson. The best one is the one that's talking to Twilight (?) but for some reason his eyes are looking way off into nowhere instead of at her.

>I feel as if I can take more liberties with a character like Discord.

That is not fear. Like everyone said it reads as "anger" or "determination." The thing about expressions is that if it looks "off" people are going to call it right away. Expressions have to be clear or it won't work.

>>29724408

> it really needs some polish to show the fear factor

What polish exactly? One can convey expression with very little. There's hardly any "polish" involved. It either reads or it doesn't. If you're fucking it up then you're doing so at a fundamental level.

How much time do we have to finish it?
I think that some of suggested expressions in the hard mode are just silly or too similar to each other (isn't "chibi" a style rather than expression? And is there any difference between "annoyed" and "irritated"?) - would it be OK if I replaced those with my own expressions?
>>
>>29725882
no it isn't, because zimbabwe only shuns advice. literally fuck off
>>
>>29727911
I'd say "irritated" implies having been exposed to annoyance for a longer period of time. I'd also correlate being irritated with more anger/agression than being annoyed.
>>
>>29728067

>>29727911
Usually until the thread dies, but this one might take a while. Also the challenges don't "end", per se, people just do them and they're done. Chibi is a style, correct. I did not create these myself. There is a difference between irritated and annoyed; my best advice for doing these is to get a mirror and make the faces and you'll see the small differences.

You're right about the polish. But the aim was to convey character, which is had to do on a facial expression only, chart and not a body expression/gesture chart.

I can see what you’re aiming at. I'm also a person who looks angry when I'm scared. And only look "determined" when I'm actually pissed. It's a defense mechanism that works for me growing up in third world Goblin town, though if you read the rest of my body posture, it'd probably be obvious that I'm actually scared and would rather get out of a high stress situation than anything else. You don't read facial expressions on Animals themselves. For horses, a pissed horse will have a lowered bowed neck, swishing tail, and pinned ears when they're angry. Pinned ears, and curled tail on a scared animal is more of a doggo thing because they need to make themselves look smaller to more dominant pack mates, still commonly used because it's something relatable to us.

Tldr: It’s not wrong but because we can’t see the rest of the gesture, it doesn’t read as scared. But I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

Her leg is wonky because I'm really bad at eyeballing how long a leg is when it's bent. The mane and tail are the way they were in the reference; I think the mane is supposed to be slightly to the side rather than directly under her.

Then don't eyeball it. You do not use your joints properly like, ever. You need to focus on quality more than quantity because right now you're pumping out the ponies, yeah, but not a single one has been correct. I'm sorry, I just have to be honest with you.

I know what you based it on because I googled "sunset shimmer from behind" and I saw that hair and I thought it sucked because it was too much for your pic. I really think you should trust me on that. I still put the lines in her hair and I think it's still obviously her.

Yes. But you need to look at what I fixed in the redlines. Like, where their arms/hands SHOULD go, where her hair should go, that their torsos should be a bit longer, that you should use spiral foreshortening (pic related), and that your lines should be, like, more detailed. You detailed anon's shirt but hat's about it. They really need detail on their pants/hair/etc, you know?
>>
>>29732532
Alright, thank you
I wish I didn't feel so intimidated by these concepts, like detailing, anatomy, and foreshortening
Like, the only reason I was able to detail Anon's shirt more was because I had a reference handy because for some reason I can't understand how this stuff works
>>
>>29732560
Honestly you probably just need to learn human anatomy first. It's harder than pony anatomy, of course, but if you ever want to draw proper people you will need to do so. There's tutorials in the OP here, but I've never used them myself, so I don't know how good they are:
>Human -
https://sites.google.com/site/4chanic/training-tutorials
https://design.tutsplus.com/tutorials/human-anatomy-fundamentals-how-to-draw-hands--cms-21440
>>
>>29732560
You're trying to do too much at the same time if you feel confused.

All of the concepts you listed are extremely sophisticated studies of their own.

It's a good idea to study each aspect individually before throwing everything together (e.g. draw a non-anatomical object orthographically and play around with lots of details to find out what you can and like to do with detailling. then sketch many characters with anatomy in ortho. Then combine the two and make detailed characters. Then try out incorporating perspective and find out how details and anatomy behave.)

It's not important to do the "correct" thing, but it's important to find out what you like and what works for you.

>head and legs look right
You can't be serious.

I'm by no means good at anatomy but here I go

>jaw way too long and far forward, looks like an underbite
>by extension, the entire snout is too far forward
>eyes too far apart, in the reference the head is also tilted so they shouldn't bee on the same level
>neck looks too long
>bent leg is too large, "wrist" too far out
>other leg symmetrical
>hind legs drawn from side view instead of 3/4
>the back one looks like it doesn't have a thigh, looks more like a front leg
>the other one's hoof is too wide
>the entire body is too long, looks like a side view
That's only a few things I spotted. Seriously, look at it compared to the original vector. If you still don't see any of these mistakes I recommend visiting an optician.

>Everyone writing books/guides/tutorials and making vids about drawing. Also you guys since you help me getting better.

It's nice to look up to someone who teaches well, but stylistic-wise it's good to look and follow other artists because your tastes are always going to be different. You'll get better faster if you study fundamentals on your own time and don't try to mute your influences just because someone you look up to does something a little better. It’s worth spending a day or two of research doing it too. It’s also a good way to avoid this whole phenomena of people just copying without understanding what the top 10 or 20 artists are doing on the website they lurk. Tumblr and Artstation are good examples of this. And why most people hated CGhub despite the quality of art there being good.

Tldr: don’t study where someone is, study how they got there to get quicker gains.

Oh yeah. You are right. Because you know. On sketch things look different.
>>
>>29740896
What I'm saying is that you should have make another rough sketch, but in color. Or at least in greyscale, to make sure that most interesting parts of your picture have the most contrasting values. Such sketch can be very small and still be useful; that's why they're call 'thumbnails'.

I'm just suggesting you a way to make sure that you won't make the same error in the future.

Unless it was on purpose (I didn't read any greens from that general), then maybe you could change something.

Yes! This is the attitude I'm talkin about! If I were you, or anyone else in the thread, I'd also add - to be inspired by better artists for you to git gudder
>>29745800
I'm fairly sure the one on top is a male. If anything, the one on the bottom is a bit androgynous.
>>
>>29745878
>I'm fairly sure the one on top is a male.
>thicc, childbearing hips
>plump buttocks
>slim waist, thinner than it's shoulders
>male
I don't see it. Give that creature some breasts, and it will have more feminine body shape than Venus.

I assumed that character on the bottom is male, because it's waist, bust and hips have the same width. Why do you think it's androgynous?
>>
>>29745975
Eh, whatever. I guess the top could be female. I thought the bottom one was a female because it was smaller and its face looked feminine. We'll have to wait for R to wake up and tell us
>>

Now that you mentioned it I can see that.

Your Anon have really weird proportions. And I'm not a fan of this really fat lineart, but I guess it's a matter of style. Fang on that pony looks really out of place - it would look better if it was moved to the front of his muzzle. Maybe make other teeth sharper as well?

See pic related. Both AJ and dogpone have the same sizes of the head. Notice how fat outline of his front left leg is. Also rapid changes of linework from very thin (metal thingy on his collar) to very fat (on his chin) is kinda jarring. On AJ lines have mostly the same width with exception for the places where those lines end.

how do I enjoy drawing?
>>
>>29754166
Draw more, step over your ego, have a purpose, set tiny goals on the road to the big one, inspire yourself with other's drawings, learn to appreciate any progress you make.
>>
>>29754166
Look at it in a positive light, and mentally prepare yourself as if your about to get ready for an exercise. Get into the mood. Feel your making mistakes, dont worry your not. This is your journey and your going to make it work throughout anything. The time is now and it's your time to shine. Get pumped, your about to draw not to impress, not to necessarily get gud, not even because you've got something to prove, if you do or dont. Start drawing because you want to. It looks like shit? Meh it'll get better with time if you truly want it. Gotta be contempt either way as long as your giving it your all and being the best you can be drawing what ever you want. Just be happy to be drawing what you like. Listening to music can help or even tutorials in the background, which can also help to get you into the mood. Make it something you look forward to and set aside a time for it. Eventually you will start to enjoy it once you start.

Your colors and forms are getting a bit better. Though, your colors could be god-tier in terms of contrast between hues, but if the values are flat it can really hold a painting back. Try to push for more contrast on the focal point by putting darker values where there would be dynamic occlusion. Also on the topic of form, pay attention to where different objects would cast shadows too.

Well, in my case I didn't enjoy drawing until I started to like how my results look. When I was learning how to draw from life it was awful. Eventually I learned how to shade, how to measure things, how to notice negative space and my drawings became less of a struggle and more of an relaxing activity.

Same thing with drawing from imagination. It became much more enjoyable when I could look at my art without cringing.
>>
>>29767922
Hmm... I feel like it is when you do stuff but actually do not know what you are doing. Like me with shading. I have no fucking idea what is going on. I just do it... I cannot tell someone what to do. I can only take advice. I think you are not a beginner when you can actually help someone.
>>
>>29767870
As long as you keep practicing and learning - yes. It's when you look at your shit and can't even begin to understand what went wrong and just go lay down for a while and don't want to ever draw again and just forget about the whole thing and accept yourself as a failure who will never do anything worth shit, that's when you start having problems.

Read keys to drawing. It's an excellent book for beginners that struggle with drawing from life. And it's pirate friendly.
Practice drawing freehand ellipses.
Practice drawing value scales and gradients. Pic related. I drew gradients by drawing very small, overlapping circles; no blending. It's a good idea to buy yourself some softer pencils to make drawing darker values faster.
And you probably should post that on /ic/, since it's not pony related.

Facial expression can be more about the over-all body language and feeling. Using the face to tell a story is just one tool. Practice putting it all together.

Study real life people. How do they carry their weight when they're physically tired? What are their arms doing while they're waiting in a long line and what does their body language say about what they might be going through mentally? Drawing is more about putting physical marks on paper. It's about observation. You have an opportunity to tell a story that only you can tell and from your point of view. Even if you don't have a pen and paper to draw you can still make mental notes about the world around you.

>>29773160

Something about your body shapes and the way the forearms connect to the torso is off-putting but I'm far to tired to really give any helpful critique at the moment.

Hey guys, I got a drawing app today (Adobe Illistrator) and doodled this up. I love how it works the same as photoshop but with draw tools.
I wasnt using any reference pictures and don't have much experience drawing ponies, so I pretty much just eyeballed it to the best of my ability.
I know her body is a little long and her hips are a little high, but everytime I adjusted it seemed to look weird. Her legs eem to be a little messed up to but I wanted them to have a more spread-out look.
Anyway, if someone wouldn't mind critiquing it and giving me some advice, I'd really appreciate it.

I eresed it because it was shit. Now I am not working on it but will tonight. If I will struggle again I'll ask for help.

>>29768731
That's a great start! The thing is, you gotta do a bunch of them in different poses, lighting scenarios, and time them. Obviously do what works with your schedule and you can throw other objects in there and have them overlap too. Sorry for the run on sentence.
>>29772570
None of us probably. I'm sure some of us are fantastic at it, but there is no mastery, in my opinion, because you can always get better.

I would not say crimson because it's too dark and plum purple is too close to her coat color already. So white, goldenrod, yellow, pink, orange, green, cyan (not neon though), I'd basically do anything but dark colors and black

Attempted a redline myself. I think he was aiming for the character to turn his head a little to look back. Careful about the hips for quadrupeds. They're a bit more forward set and when you see them poking out like that it looks like he's malnourished.

hey lookit even more faggery comin right up

general notes:
- you need a much larger head, your current one is small enough to register way more realistic than what you're going for
- make the ribcage larger and rounder, it looks barely thicker than the neck
- as has been said, ease up on the bumpy top contour on the hind and the shoulder, makes a horse look emaciated

Just noticed also, the angle and tips of her wings could be a little higher, especially the wing closer to the viewer.
The placement looks good, but they look, well, flat, for lack of a better word.

I fucking hate drawing just fucking kill me fuck
>>
>>29779056
Nobody hates drawing, they just lose interest because they "can't draw what hey see in their head"
PRACTICE. It will pay off.
>>
>>29779068
Also because as adults we lose interest in things we aren't good at quicker than we were as kids. I think someone mentioned that
>>
>>29779100
This also.
"If I can't do it once, I can never do it."
>>
>>29779100
>Also because as adults we lose interest in things we aren't good
We lost interest in most things as adults. But once you find that one thing you're passionate about you don't care if your shit. You just use it as a means of escapism because you're shit at everything else. It's not a chore, it's making lines on a piece of paper.
>quicker than we were as kids.
All kids love to draw because it's their first language. They don't aspire to be good at it. We all learn to pick up visual cues faster than we learn to read or write. You have the ability to communicate visually now, you just need to buckle down and figure out how to communicate it best through fundamentals.
>>
>>29779209
In a way.
When we were young, we didn't care if we sucked. We drew, played instuments, played sports and games, etc. It was about the fun of doing things.
As we grew up those thoughts turned to "I'm not as good as others, so I am obviously terrible" which soon became "why even make an effort if I suck so much?"
Meanwhile the people who know they suck but keep trying become true artists, and still think they're bad at what everyone else sees as amazing.
>>
>>29779303
>As we grew up those thoughts turned to "I'm not as good as others, so I am obviously terrible"
Yeah, that is normal, but once it stops you from doing something you're crippling yourself from potential. Being shit at something doesn’t keep everyone from doing it. I guess that's why people who have a good mindset to do one thing often do many others as well.

>When we were young, we didn't care if we sucked.
Most artists I know also crosses into writing, coding, music, 3-D, or even all of them. The best artists I know, are equally amazing at multiple things because once you can relate certain knowledge you can even get better at drawing even by doing something, making it very hard to burn out. Maybe we do the same thing when we’re young because it helped us better understand the world and ourselves.

>Meanwhile the people who know they suck but keep trying become true artists, and still think they're bad at what everyone else sees as amazing.
That's because we're our best critics. Once we have a personal goal/standards, which other people can't see, we view ourselves very low on that ladder. We never climb that ladder either, we get better tastes and reshape our goals/standards.

TLDR: If you can't get over the first hurdle, it will never get better. The problem is in the mindset.
>>
>>29779303
It's true most of the times, however sometimes you get so motivated it literally doesn't matter. Sometimes you create because you can't NOT create, you absolutely need to do it, to see it become real. At this point it doesn't matter if you're worse than someone. Granted it's a rare thing, but having those overwhelming inspiration moments I can't help but always think about it this way. It wasn't even with drawing but it helps me draw now.
