As viewers complain about mane6 "regressing" whenever friendship lessons are learned anymore, a new character is introduced that is more new to friendship to allow an avenue for exploring those simpler lessons, as well as simultaneously providing a new perspective via a character that's even more maladjusted than Twilight originally was. Twilight was capable of understanding friendship, she just didn't bother because she didn't realize she wanted it. Starlight wants it but has difficuly understanding it. She also provides a start to Twilight transitioning into a mentor role.

This isn't even a critique. Flutterhsy never wnats to be the center of attention either, but her episodes push her there because situations characters naturally avoid provide conflict that that plot, lesson, and cathersis are built around

Fluttershy's overcoming shyness comes in baby steps, and so does Starlight's understanding of friendship and reliance on magic. What lessons has she failed to learn? If you're referring to ELTSD then Starlight herself says, "Believe me, I know. What I did was wrong." Again, baby steps, and more over, somebody relapsing into old habits when stuck in a stressful situation is a real thing that happens that people have to work through and overcome. Your attitude here seems to be, "Oh, our recovering alcoholic ended up having a drink. Let's give up on them forever."

Hyperbole. It deals with the anxiety of approaching someone you know you've wronged, but she didn't argue or get held at gunpoint. Immediately after Twilight straightened things out, she reminded Starlight to go apologize as an end to their conversation. Saying she was forced to apologize is like saying you had to be FORCED to eat when someone ends your conversation by saying, "Let's go get dinner."

I agree with this point, but we just have a difference of opinion here. I think it's interesting and compelling what this shows Starlight learned from her village. Starlight accepted that ponies' personal traits help friendships, but hadn't realized that her using magic to try to help friendships blossom was also part of the problem. She seems to think it's okay that she's using magic on her friends since she's only doing it to more quickly share their personal interests. It's a different lesson for her than what her village was, and highlights how practical versus empathetic she still is at this point.

Hyperbole. She visited them at the end of both S5 and S6, and we've already seen Party Favor in the S7 opening. That's more often than we've seen any of the mane 6 visit their families aside from Pinkie/Maud.

Plot armor implies she endured or survived thinsg she shouldn't have been able to, which just didn't happen? Certainly no more than in any other finale. Thorax was the savior. Starlight literally did the least of any of the group in the S6 finale. She was just the common thread to bond her motley crew together, which means she performed the least active role, but the most important since being the uniting factor in the group aligns with the friendship theme of the show.

I have no idea what you're trying to imply by "forced" here. It sounds like you're saying any time events lead to a scenario where Starlight mattered, which is the case in any character-focused episode, becuase that's how writing works?

Ignoring your double negative, this is covered in my first response about her being more maladjusted than any of the mane 6 are. The mane 6 couldn't bond with Trixie about former villainy, none of them would've made a good Scrooge for HWT, I'd argue that trying to have a "struggling with opening back up to an old friend" episode like The Crystalling would've felt forced with any of the mane 6, and using any of them for Starlight's role would've both disrupted the theme of "reformed villains saving the day" and would've lost the poetry of Starlight reciting to Chrysalis her own growth and lessons learned. "I know what it's like to lead by fear and intimidation! And I know what it's like to want everypony to do what you say! But I was wrong. A real leader doesn't force her subjects to deny who they are! She celebrates what makes them unique and listens when one of them finds a better way!"
