Uh, no.
Lunar Mare is pronounced "mah-ray", and not like horse "mare".

Actually mare in latin (or greek I forgot which) means terror.
Hence, night terror.
Nightmare

Don't fucking insult me by insinuating I know how to say words out loud.

No, "mare" in Latin means "sea" or "ocean" hence why early astronomers mistook the dark spots for oceans - (e.g Oceanus Procelarum) or Mare Serenitatis (sea of serenity)
I thought a mare was also an old crone that sat on people's chests and that THAT was where the word nightmare came from.
Now I'm just confused.

Correcting myself, mare is actually dubbed from "Maria" which is Latin for seas.

Everyone is confused, OP was referencing mare in a topic where it means two different things, I was only stating that when referencing "mare" in lunar terms, means something completely different, and has a different root than the horse, or dream "mare". "Mare" In lunar terms is a more modern word that roots to a older Latin word for sea. "Mare" in horse, or dream terms is original and different in Latin.
