Why should I save the ponies while letting my people die?
If we kill them and live, then it would be the same if we die and they live. If we refuse to let them live, then we would be faulty of what we didn't do. And if we die and let them live, then we would be faulty of who we killed.
In the end the result is the same, and both choices are the same, the only thing that changes is the name of who lived.

And what makes you thing that they deserve to live more than us?
They are creatures that prance around a world created for them, they live happy lives, playing, making parties, going in adventures, and in the end they all die happy, but without any legacy or the smallest speck of significance.

When they are born, they get a purpose, but it is already fullfiled.
Their cutie mark dictates what they are and what they want, and they will excel at it, they will live their entire lives like they are meant to be, because they cannot be anything else.

But us, the humans live a life without any meaning, because we will give life our own meaning, we can be anything, and can do anything.
We are born in a unforgiving world, which we tamed.
We are born sorrounded in cold, infinite space, which we conquered
We are born in a society that tries to bring us down, yet we stand out.
We are born in a universe full of misteries, yet we uncover them every day.
Our knowledge will bring us further, and let us do things we believe to be impossible.
And if some day we encounter another civilization perishing, then may our knowledge let us save them.
