I understand your fear. However, I do not think a psychologist would advise you to quit ponies. In fact, he/she may approve of them!

A psychologist will try to help you resolve problems you have with your life; that is their job. Ponies are, at least on this board, usually a coping mechanism, not the cause of the problem. No psychologist would suggest eliminating a functioning coping mechanism, especially if they do not have direct negative consequences. It is always better to have a mechanism than not to have one. If it does no harm, why advise removing it, when there are bigger problems to solve?

A psychologist will mostly listen. You will be the one talking; they will ask questions, mostly open-ended ones. Ponies will come up at some point, probably. You will be able to tell the psychologist as much or as little as you want. They will suggest methods that can be used to solve problems you may have. You may apply them, or not; a psychologist provides advice, but you decide what to do with it.

Remember: they have no power over you. If you do not like what a psychologist is saying, you can always walk out. Stop coming to their sessions, find a different psychologist, decide to fix problems yourself, or simply live with them. Your life is your own, forever and always.
