it came up in conversation a few times fairly early on, and eventually it made its rounds among my close family, so basically everyone who talks to me regularly knows I have at least a passing interest in the show, but I managed to pass it off by pointing out my love for older cartoons with animation and writing styles it might remind me of.
One good "It reminds me of the old powerpuff girls and some of the other classic adventure/slice of life styled cartoons, and it has moderately decent writing" and no one questions it.
Having a three year old niece who loves the show REALLY helps in that respect, especially when she likes the same pones as you.

I'm certain sure they all assume I jerk it to pones, but the majority of my close family and (few) friends are essentially just as degenerate as me, so they don't even slightly judge me.

I also have pony wallpapers on every device I own, no fucks given. If people see and they ask I'll just tell them. Don't have that much merch yet (a Chrysalis keychain and an /mlp/ scarf & pin) but I plan on buying some more bug merch whenever possible.

I honestly feel like this is the type of thing you should never, under any circumstances reveal to your parents.
