There's people who automatically dislike everything new, there's also people who defend anything the show does without allowing any criticism, both extremes are hostile and unproductive. It's just the nature of this place. Glimmer memeing is just that, it's annoying sometimes but it can't be helped. There's no doubt that Starlight could be handled better, but the same can be said about all characters.
There's a lot of reasons why newer seasons get shit. Every season has its weak episodes but with so many good ones mediocre eps now can be considered "bad" just because the bar is set pretty high. At this point reusing old ideas is inevitable and that adds to the negativity towards newer seasons. People also get burnt out. I won't lie, I outright skipped some S6 episodes in the beginning but at the same time I thought that its second half was really good.

I think the show is still fantastic. Season 1 has a lot of charm for me personally, partly due to nostalgia, partly due to it being "the first" and just being so pure and wholesome. Not saying the others aren't, just season 1 has a special charm.

That being said, I dunno if I have a favorite season. I just love the show itself.

This is a Pinkie Pie episode! get the fuck out of my episode, you smug know it all - know nothing cunt!!) when in fact in season 1 there was never a clear "This is an X pony episode" or .. at the very least they equally shared not only screentime, but importance. Like in Dragonshy, Swarm of the Century, Mare In The Moon, Over A Barrel, etc.

And when they don't hate each other, they act like mental retards to one other (Luna Eclipsed)
