I've only seen season 5 and six once, and as they aired, so memory is hazy, but S6 Starlight was trying to be what she understood be be the definition of a good person, trying especially hard because she knows she's been just so awful. She, like, twilight, tried to do it by the books. This doesn't work. I'm mostly thinking of the episode where she mind-controlled the mane 6. I liked that. It was better than all of the autistic twilight in S1-3, because it was her ACTUALLY doing something bad for what she thought was a good reason, instead of almost killing herself because she hasn't written a letter in a week.

That still means literally nothing because first of all, her power was shown as just a small part of the rainbow that they made and secondly, it's fucking My Little Pony and the big attacks barely ever have any form of consistency. The final villains are always oneshot by some kind of giant laser whether it be from the EoH, Cadance and Shining's random love asspull blast, or Rainbow Power.

It was never stated that she held back and regardless she was losing until Twilight was distracted
Not to mention that it was literally never implied that the m5 could never regenerate their lost magic like mana; they were still very active and the ones that were drained beforehand (Rarity, Ponk, Fluttershy) still competed in the games afterwards even though they were very fatigued when Twilight took their magic.
