Where would this invading force come from?

There aren't many other nations or factions that appear to have super-power status. The only power we've seen that represents a real threat is the Crystal Empire, which brought them to total war in the episode "The Cutie Re-Mark".

Equestria already repulsed a changeling invasion. The Yaks lack flight and magic. The Gryphons don't appear to have the economic power or organization. The Dragons, while powerful, now have diplomatic ties. I mean, spike basically installed a puppet monarchy.

The only problems Equestria seems to have is with super villains that are usually more concerned with destroying the world as a whole, rather than just the kingdom of Equestria.
