I guess it has to do with the MLP movie reviving nostalgic(?) (barely anything after 2004 is seen as retro at this point in time) interest in the show for some.

At least /mlp/ isn't a terrible remake of a beloved classic that turned out to be irreversibly dated within a year of it's release.
