Why do people on this board have such a hate boner for the new changelings? From a design perspective, they aren't really that bad, and while the reformation was a bit out of left field it isn't completely illogical.

Gonna engage in some autism here, so bear with me.

The reformation came out of fucking nowhere. Completely and utterly.
A changeling giving up his love willingly changes him into a completely new species instead of simply, you know, be GOOD changelings.
Not to mention Thorax apparently lost his hunger entirely (instead of just, say, feeding off his new friends who would be okay with it).

And every single other changeling jumped on the bandwagon for no good reason.
Chrysalis had JUST talked about how she meant to feed her entire hive, not just her personal ambition, and all her changelings had cheered her on. She's not a selfish cunt towards her underlings.
But then they forget all about their loyalty towards her without a second of hesitation.

Also, their designs aren't really that good. They're all walking neon rainbows, clashing colors fucking everywhere.

The idea of reformed changelings isn't terrible. I don't even hate the idea of a more fairy-like design. But the way they went about it removes any possible struggle and depth the changelings could've had.

Before, the concept of a reformed changeling grappling with his basic nature was this noble thing. It was the idea of a predator overcoming his base instincts to do good. Maybe a faction of reformed changelings could've arranged a special relationship with the Crystal Empire, feeding off of their boundless love, and protecting the border against their former queen. It would even send a good message: that sometimes it's difficult to get past your selfish desires and do the right thing, but you have to do what you -know- is right for the benefit of all involved.

That all goes out the window when it's a matter of, "Hey guys, just stop being mean and you won't have to eat anymore. :^)"

Yea I get the idea, their based on faeries which come from the same root word as goblin and faeries could appear both beautiful or hideous depending on their intention. BUT the design is too busy, keep the same basic concept and clean it up a tad.

I thought it was pretty clear that as a Queen, Chrysalis was only using her subjects. That she was very much aware that changlings in their new "true" form fed off Friendship, and that she was starving them of it so she could stay in power. It was also mentioned in previous episodes that now Equestria is naturally filling with much more friendship/magic than ever before thanks to the Mane 6 spreading it everywhere and solving friendship problems. So I'd say that could justify every Changeling suddenly changing form in an instant, since as soon as Chrysalis' throne was destroyed, all of that new untouched friendship flooded into the hive at once.

As to why every changeling jumped on the bandwagon to begin with, I can only assume they just saw Thorax's transformation, felt that influx of friendship/magic once the throne was destroyed and felt the urge to transform themselves, like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly or some shit like that. And like I said above, Chrysalis was using them to stay in power. Her saying she was trying to feed the hive was probably just a ploy to stay on top by saying what they wanted to hear.

2. Idea of changeling reformation is interesting, BUT:
2a. The design however went far beyond technicolor.
2b. I am afraid that might lead to actual problems with plot synopsis for them. To explain it:
- First the community could stay with the way the looked like with slight modification (i.e. crystallized wings)
- That would lead to idea if those changelings really had reformed
- Chrysalis reappear and tries to reclaim the throne.
- It would be up to changelings to decide what do they prefer.
- Eventually staying on Thorax side, they would somewhat "evolve"
