Hearing the same insults against Nyx over and over gives the mindset that everyone hates her simply from bandwagon rather than an actual formulated opinion. When you hear the exact same "insult critism" it gets repitive. Why pay attention to something you've heard over and over? There's logically no point. If perhaps people would take notice of simply some of her strong points instead of her weak points then I would listen. Even Amy Rogers and Larson weren't that impatient and they stayed longer with Hasbro. It was a sign that It was Faust who was just being childish.

Truth is, Larson and ROger were more passionate about ponies than Faust who was simply more ambitious and focused on gaining control than being patient. McCarthy just waited for her opportunity and now she's 10 level above Faust. She can make every fanfic canon if she wants to. Faust can at best read fanfics.

season 1 was aimless and the writers didnt know what they wanted to do yet. there was hardly any continuity and no lasting character development.
season 2 was where they hit their stride and figured out how they wanted everything to work. it introduce more continuity and world building as well as lasting character development for the most part. its where memes like "fluttershy learns to be assertive. again" spawned. it was also during the golden age of the fandom where it still wasnt quite mainstream but good enough that everyone who was already watching loved it. to this day people tie the fandom to the quality and use it to argue it was the best season.
season 3 was supposed to be the end of the show. however, due to overwhelming popularity they decided to keep it going. larsons finale was turned in as finished, but then changed last minute and some of the original ideas were moved to the season 4 premiere. the result was a rushed finale and short season that left a bad taste in peoples mouths.
season 4 was the first season they introduced the idea of a season-wide story arc. the quality of the episodes were relative to season 2 and many people were still jaded over season 3, the result being people started judging the show more harshly despite it being just as good or better than before. see: wind waker.
season 5, the objectively best season, introduced complex situations and really delved deep into each character in addition to another season-wide story arc. pretty much every character had a chance to shine in their own episode and explore emotions and ideas previously ignored. there was the added bonus of the infamous episode 100 which was a love note from the staff to the fandom. overall the quality was higher than anything previously shown.
season 6 didnt do anything particularly special, but it still handled the characters well. spike in particular showed the highest level of improvement. there was the introduction of a new character.

If her character is meant to be a complete sociopath that doesn't know what she's doing is wrong, then the writers did an amazing job.

Unfortunately she isn't, so she's just a terribly written character. Maybe people who came into the show past season 4 latch onto her because she's new like they are? Or maybe people relate to her because they've done terrible things too, but that still doesn't mean she's a good character, just means autists are latching onto something that doesn't quite exist.

Starlight's popularity is literally New Toy syndrome. We've had 5 seasons of the regular 6, so her appearance is a "breath of fresh air" compared to the rest who we know much about as is.

However, her character is so poorly done. From the foundation of her friendship issue to her interacitons. She cant stand on her own at all without an accessory (particularly Twilight and to a lesser extent, Trixie), and has near 0 synergy with the other members of the Mane 6.

The only future I would want is for her to fuck off to the Crystal Empire or the town she helped create, but it probably wont happen. Twilight needs her as a reason to exist at the moment, at least until some other overarching thing shows up in S7.
