Zeppelins were pretty untouchable for a while, they would fly higher than a fair number of planes of it's time and they hardly took any damage from their guns should they manage to reach them.

However the second incindiary ammo was a thing a few years into the war they went extinct rather fast.

That said if you just want to bomb something it's easier to get a few bombers or two seaters and do it that way. If the target is close enough.
