I'm actually a little peeved how little magic is used in the show.
I fucking love magic and Twilight has rarely used it to assist her in resolving the conflict.

Also, your statement is directly contradicted by what we have even Starlight do in the show. She used magic in "Every Little Thing She Does" and it caused problems and solved nothing.
Magic has almost never been used as an end all be all except rainbow power.
