I like to ask which toy they have so I can avoid getting duplicates, and I think it'd be more polite to do that inside so you don't have cars waiting as the employee looks through the box. I worked for a little over a year as a Kroger cashier.

With all the shit cashiers have to deal with on the daily, some person buying an item of pony merch doesn't even get on the radar. At least, it didn't for me and I have never heard my other co-workers mention anything.

I don't know about the other customers but speaking as someone who has worked as a cachier I don't see why anyone working a counter would say anything.

Primarily because when you work retail you have to learn to just stop giving a shit and tune out completely. When I worked the register I didn't even remember the people I had spoken to throughout the day, I cared so little that I had forgotten all of them by the time I reached the end of my shift.

Other customers might look at people funny but in all likelihood they just assume you're buying the toys for a kid as a gift, especially around christmas.
