I don't think the fandom has ever claimed that. Plenty of us like all three.

As for what makes the show appealing: it's positive without being sappy, character-driven, funny without being mean and generally has a very sweet, fun vibe, without ever tipping over into being cheesy. Also it's cute as hell. It's not the best show ever but it's a good one.

Anyway, the entire series is on Netflix and most episodes are also on Youtube so there's nothing stopping you from forming an opinion of your own.

It's hard to know how many people are here, so maybe I've already told this to you but, fwiw, don't let a season ruin the show for you. I don't mean "keep on watching it", don't do that, I hated season 6 more than any other show I've ever watched and the show is over for me, but an awful season can't change the past seasons. It really can't. If you liked the old seasons, rewatch them, enjoy them again, and just ignore the shit after s5 ended. It sucks that because some retarded fuckers the show we used to love no longer exists, but they ruined it only after they touched it, don't let them ruin the past seasons they didn't touch too.

I wouldn't say it's objectively better, but I enjoy it more. Generally the writing is better in my opinion, as in the stories and characters are often more compelling and relatable and there's a lot of little touches worked in by both the writing staff and the animators to try to make it appeal to everyone.

That's not saying Pokemon or Sonic the Hedgehog are nessarily bad in all cases, of course. And that's not also to say that MLP is always good. If you want to make arguments about these things you have to be specific about things like the show's generation. For example, I'm assuming that you're referring to generation four when you just say MLP, but there are tons of different iterations of sonic and Pokemon that all have different levels of quality and appeal more or less to different people.

I dunno, I imagine part of it is to do with the communities surrounding the shows, if that makes any sense. The shows have similar themes and similar sort of feels to them, so you would think that they would draw the same sort of people, and they kind of do. However, they're going to have vastly different communities surrounding them just because they're different shows, and different communities attract different people.

For example, I like MLP:FiM and SU. However, I really don't like the SU fandom because it's somehow several times more cancerous than the MLP fandom so I avoid it like the plague despite the fact that I'm somewhat active in the MLP fandom and it's facets

Depends on how you define the term brony and who exactly falls into that camp. I can say pretty handily that most everyone here on /mlp/ thinks furries are degenerate cancer. However there is a very large chunk of people on /mlp/ who don't self-identify as bronies.

Fun fact: MLP and Gravity Falls had the same executive producer in each of their first seasons, and the creators of both shows have been friends since college.

MLP, Steven and GF have some similar themes and writing styles, and there's a lot of overlap between the three fandoms.

Season 6 was fine. It had some bad episodes, it had some good episodes, and a few excellent episodes. Same as every other season. Quit bitching.

Maybe you should consider stop calling "bait" every opinion which differs from yours. Three of those episodes were really good, I even wrote a thingy defending STFF specifically because Quibble wasn't "wrong", and I really appreciated that the writers managed to write a character who thought that "everything past season X isn't canon", and he wasn't any less right that the character who loved the last seasons. I'm a bit conflicted about AHWT tho, I loved it the first time I watched it but this season made me hate Starlight and if I rewatched it now I probably wouldn't enjoy it.

But, even if I admit that those episodes were great, and I admit that I liked The Fault in Our Cutie Marks, Buckball Season and Top Bolt too, that doesn't save the season. The bad episodes were really bad. I mean, really, really, bad. They were absolutely awful. This season had my 7 less favorite episodes in the entire show. The season, as a whole, was like a dish with some tasty food (the episodes I liked) covered in a big pile of steaming shit. It doesn't matter if the tasty food is great, the shit makes the whole thing inedible.

I think that even the people who still like the show should agree, if you liked this season but season 7 turns out to be shit, that shouldn't change at all your opinion about this season, not make you like it any less.
