Nope. The comics most definitely aren't canon, and this doesn't change that. Doesn't mean you can't enjoy them, but you get the idea.

What will be interesting however is seeing what a new writer can do, and one that's done work for Marvel and stuff at that. The comics have been a mixed bag due to various reasons, as far as I'm concerned, but I'll definitely give this guy a chance at least.

Don't think that really matters too much. At the most, it'd help him understand MLP a bit better, and I dunno if that'd be noticeable or not in the quality of his writing without prior examples.

I think the comics might start trying to become more consistent with the show, and may follow the basic plotlines a bit more closely, and maybe that will help improve them overall, but it doesn't change the fact that they aren't canon.

Honestly, I don't really follow them too closely these days. I keep an eye on what new issues are coming out, and may skim over them, but I don't sit and read them over.

I just don't know what this arc is. The cynical side in me is saying that this is like Return of Queen Chrysalis, and that it is a sequel that "ties in" to something that happened on the show but Asmus didn't help create the first part.

As far as I'm concerned, if Asmus wrote/helped write something on the show and then wrote a comic, that comic is canon in its entirety, whereas anyone else's canon is only canon when specific events are mentioned and even only then those specific events.

I don't think it's really fair to call an issue canon just because it's writer wrote something on the show at some point or another, so I can't agree with the idea that it or any of the other comics would somehow be canon. The IDW comics just aren't canon in general.

But anyway, let's just wait for the issue to come out. Need to see what it's about, because the tweet is vague as fuck and at this point it could be anything from fucking nothing to an entirely new direction for the comics going forward. I can't help but be a little cynical too, but eh, who knows.

because if you want to follow the storyline you have to watch all its sources including comics. since comics are originally a 3rd party content there will be a shitload of headcanons which doesn't belong to the storyline
