It's because it's made in maya, and is quite complicated vs SFM. All the deformations and whatnot that are on these rigs just cant be done in SFM, and so the SFM animations are rigid and ugly in comparison. But at the same time working with said rigs in maya is hard as fuck since you have to take everything into consideration, and when it comes to advanced physics shit can break easy and unless you're a pro modeler and can code in mayas scripting language youre gonna be quite fucked.

My memory is not the best, but I'll try. JanAnimations is a professional animator, Makkon and PixelKitties work in illustration, I believe. Of course there's the Japanese "superstar animator" Yoh Yoshinari who secretly posted ponies for a while, and one Studio B animator who taught animation to noobs on youtube for a while. Lots of semi-professional VAs jumped on the bandwagon. I'm guessing the Fighting is Magig team was at least in part comprised of professionals. Another guy wrote an entire pony-themed coding language.

It's made in Maya and most of the 3D animators only know how to use SFM since it's easier to use. Until someone ports them into SFM, no one is really going to do anything with them.
The EQG models 3dAnon made about 2 years ago where made in Blender and only people in the 3D threads where doing anything with them since they took the time to learn Blender. Even though they got released to the public and got a lot of attention. When they were finally imported into SFM months later, people them started actually working with them. But since they're using SFM, they end up looking like shit.
