Holy crap, I just installed Harmony, and its so much better than flash. Why didnt they use this since the beginning for MLP?

I made a small animation ,and it took me about 1/10th of the time that it would have taken in flash and without all the shitty flash bugs you keep sing in season 3-6.

Anyone here use it to make pony animations?

Are there any animators left on /mlp/?

>>28878696
What the actual fuck are you talking about? I have been using flash for years, and unless you are creating your assets directly in flash, there should be no errors with importing vectors for some of the more complex symbols, such as eyes for example.

Harmony is great if you can afford it, but for most people flash is still the go to software for 2d animation, both because of how easy it is to get (both legally and illegally), and because it's a relatively easy software to pick up if you already know the basic fundamentals of animation.
>>28880076
That's a nice animation, but one of the reasons why you don't mix rasters with vectors in animation is because rasters are images that cannot change their appearance dynamically like vectors can, so when you go to animate a scene and there is some degree of motion the difference between the two will become very apparent...The raster won't look as clean and defined as the vector will...
>>
>>28884517
The basics are exactly the same for flash and harmony, so I dont see how its harder to get into.

and harmony has
>Automatic lip sincing
>advance character rigging
>pallet swapping on templates
>much better tweening
>paper animation support
>>
>>28884948
I meant that flash is easier to get started with because of the plethora of resources for it in comparison to harmony. So in that regard with no formal training with either program, it would be safe to say that a hobbyist would have an easier time picking up on flash than they would harmony.
>>
>>28882587
>implying most countries are even big enough to warrant more than one time zone.
>>
My harmony just bombed out and now the trail extension doesn't work. This might delay the animation while i find a better method to pirate it.
>>
>>28885343
Unless the trial is set to self destruct after a given time period automatically and that data is hardcoded in the actual program itself somewhere, you should be able to make a portable version of it to bypass any registry checks. That is, assuming the trial is exactly the same as the paid version.

I'll poke around with it a bit and see what I can find.
>>
>>28885416
>>28885343
it seems the trail is linked to your account, and all you need it a email address to activate it, so i guess i could just create a new account with a throwaway email every 21 days. tedious but not difficult. Unless they have some protection against that.

Also, apparently there is no water mark in the trail, but i haven't checked it yet.

>>
>>28885444
Yes, one of the options is to try the program, but it also has an option to activate with an activation code connected to the internet, which opens up the potential to block the internet connection, then reverse engineer the program to accept a given activation code. This is exactly why some torrents give you a single key instead of an actual keygen, because the installer and program it contains is deisgned to look for a specific key. Theoretically it should work, depending on how well the software is protected that is.

I'm still looking at it.

>>
>>28878696
Yeah harmony is amazing, and once you start figuring out the stuff you can do with the node view it will blow your mind (not to mention pose copier). Hell z-dept shiting and deformers alone are huge time savers.
>>28885524
Toonz is really rough and is geared more towards classical animation. It also has no timeline view, only x-sheet, so if you're not familiar with classical animation workflow it will be a pain in the ass.
>>
>>28878737
>Holy shit, Toon Boom is so much better!
>Just look at all the problems Flash has! The eye has a few pixels messed up!
>Also the pen tool is doing something weird!

Anon, nobody cares because most animators have more technical knowledge than this and have nothing to add to your absurd wonderment, and non-animators don't even know anything about Flash in the first place.

Yes, Toon Boom is a stronger program than Flash and it has a ton more tools. Eliminating that little detail on the eye is pretty much the most minor thing you could get excited about.

>>28885478
Toon Boom is actually pretty well protected. People I know who have cracked it find the software is incompatible or even dangerous to use with other people. You can't do group projects and therefore piracy is useless for anything more ambitious than solo animations. Pirated versions of Toon Boom can sometimes corrupt files made by other versions of Toon Boom. As far as I'm aware, there's also no simple piracy options. You have to get a lot deeper into your registry and system.
>>
>>28886433
> nobody cares because most animators have more technical knowledge than this
apparently not, since as you can see in >>28878709 even the show animators have these problems
>>
Continuing with my easy but tedious piracy method:

Everything works in a virtual machine with Windows 7, I can export the full thing with no watermark or anything, so it seems good. Performance is good enough and my wacom tablet works too. Only thing left to test now is if I can open something made in a previous trail in another one, or if the files themselfs contain some protection too.
>>
>>28886655
>Even show animators have these problems
That is not a technical part of animation itself. It's a technical issue with using Flash, but doesn't have a lot of impact on how you'd actually do the job of animation, and it doesn't strictly limit your normal approach.

I mean this is kind of retarded. If you knew anything about Flash you'd be more excited about how much better the smoothing is in Toon Boom. Or you'd enjoy how the z layers work like TiaraWhy. >>28886372

Getting worked up about a little peculiarity around a character's eye due to a quirk of the program is nit-picking to a degree that I'd assume the poster merely heard about stuff like that as a fun but trivial "did you know" fact. Yes, Flash does that, but it comes up pretty rarely and the viewer doesn't usually notice. It's meaningless. Any experienced animator has a higher level of technical knowledge where animation actually matters, and there's nothing to add to "holy shit, look at these pixels most people don't think about!"
>>
>>28886900
Cont: just reset my image, made a new trail account and copied over my previous project. everything working fine.

Last possible thing that could still fuck me is if the saved project somehow self destructs in 21 days.

>>28887170

>>
>>28886972
Beside the drawing tools that work, harmony just has a plethora of stuff that makes life for animators so much better. Even simple as stage rotation.

For years flash had no ability to rotate the stage, and when they finally added it is was completely broken. The stage only rotates around the center point of the entire screen, no matter where you are. In harmony it rotates around the center of wherever you move or are zoomed in

>>28887009
They don't. The trial freeze works for version 12 (a friend of mine has used it for over a year now). There is also a full version of 12 but it's only on macosX. On windows the last version yar hard is 10.3.

>>
>>28887773

>>
>>28886433
Looking at it a bit more, ToonBoom's activation works almost exactly like Autodesk products do, where it has to call out to a given server to check an activation code, accompanying license file or account information, but it appears to only do this when you initially start it up as far as I can tell. If I can figure out what calls this function, I should be able to spoof this in memory and make the program "think" it's connected to the activation server, then it should work the same way as the xforce keygens do, if you are familiar with them. Once you get past that part, and provided you block the program from accessing the network, you shouldn't need any sort of further modification from there.
