Sounds sort of like me. I decided to check the site out about a decade ago. I click on /b/ because that is the board that I seem to hear the most about. I scan it for about five minute and then decide that's enough 4chan for one lifetime. I never come back again until /mlp/ is created.

I don't limit myself to one board though these days.

Meh. When I first found out about it, 4chan was a young site. It was about a month before Delicious Ron and his country club on /b/. I was a college student then, full of hopes and dreams.

You know what blows my mind the most about /mlp/ and the fandom in general is the lack of love for all cartoons (including anime) because of a love of animation. I got into the show because it provided a lighthearted and easy distraction from the types of movies that I used to watch on a very frequent basis (and still watch on a somewhat less frequent basis). Mostly artsy and cinematic foreign films. I enjoy them, but they tend to be rather cerebral, so cartoon ponies were a nice "junkfood for the mind" in between them.

Honestly, it's hard to sum up. The community is probably a contributing factor, but I'm not exactly a fan of the fandom. I'm more a fan of what the show and fandom gain from each other. I like how the show keeps to simple stories, but even the tiniest detail of those stories can turn out to be important. I like how the status quo is always changing while keeping many core aspects of the series unaltered. I like the music, the characters, the setting- there's so much to discover and figure out in MLP, even after more than five years of it airing. There's always a reason to look past the surface of things. It's rare for a show to offer that kind of potential.
