Magic lasers are one of the laziest plot devices in the show. All the magical power in the world, and you're telling me the best they can do is fire a laser like they're trying to club each other over the head with a baseball bat? Where's the creativity? Where's the spectacle? It's fucking boring to watch, and it's every unicorns default response to fighting. I hate it.
Even fucking Dungeon and Dragons never went so far as to give their wizards lasers.

I'm going to put a controversial opinion here, but I'd say that everyone in the mane six is balanced. Sure, Twilight is magically gifted, but that's her talent. It's like calling Rainbow unbalanced because she flies fast, or Pinkie unbalanced because she operates on toon logic. Everyone in the main six has a talent that they're better at than the others. It doesn't make them overpowered because of it.

Granted, she's had more opportunities to use her magic, and the vague rules to it makes it seem broken at times, but she is the 'leader' of the mane 6. It makes sense for her to have more of a focus than the rest of the cast and thus, more times to shine and appear powerful.

I don't know about everyone else, I say DBZ as a joke, but of course I'm referring to over the top action with lasers and explosions in the show. No, I didn't like the S4 finale, I didn't think it fit. I don't think it works well in the series, and I think it tried too hard to be edgy and cool. I don't feel that way about GoH, because I like how it's taking a more fantasy approach for the most part, and involving everyone, not just lasers, throwing through mountains, blowing up buildings and such. I didn't like S5's finale because again, it looked like it tried too hard to be cool with the alternate timelines and such, especially the war one, which came off as fanfiction.

It was the worst and maybe even last season at that point, Not even McCarthy gave a shit anymore, maybe they did it to pander to the "adult audiences". Then S5 got greenlit and started to actually put effort again.
