Trixie was useless. Discord could take their attention in both cases. Thorax was actually most most important. Even if Starlight went alopne with Thorax and got captured, she would still realised that they need to share their love. So yeah, both Discord and Trixie were just a fanservice. Discord was mostly just a fluttercord ship facservice.
