Anon found himself in Equestria and lives outside of Ponyville. There was no problem with atmosphere. The ponies are sort of afraid of him, and he lives on the fringe, but he spies on the ponies and begins to learn certain words in their horselanguage, though he can't make all of the sounds they are able to produce. He begins to grunt and whinny certain horsewords as best he can to try to communicate.

The one I was referring to was started by a guy named TheArtfulLounger (i think), and that turned out to be a hoax where the guy apparently was doing a case-study or some shit and AiE got PISSED. You should ask about it.

There was another story where he was a hunter. I think it fits the bill of what you're talking about. He's just trying to survive on the outskirts of town and has sparse contact with them for a while. Also he ends up fucking timberwolves.
