Strangely, the thing I miss the most is character generals. Used to be you could solidly bet on there being at least a half-dozen, often a full-dozen character threads up at once, all with active writefagging and discussion in them. Mane 6, princesses, background, one-off characters, whatever - you could bet on them being all active and reasonably interesting to stick your head into.

The real problem is the fuckoff huge gaps between when Discord was defeated and Luna went Nightmare on everyone. We don't know how long that was - it could have been months or centuries. I rather suspect that much of the "pre-classical" stuff took place quite a while before Discord arrived, and likewise there was also an extended stable period between Discord and Nightmare Moon.

An alternative interpretation - working on that ponies use "1000 years" to just mean "a really long time" - is that Luna hadn't actually been gone for a millenium, and the events are rather more closely spaced than I am assuming.

There was a point where all stories based on Anon, except for a few outliers, were in one thread instead of the countless cyoas, one shots, and other riff raff being scattered throughout the board with 2-3 people in them like there is now.
