I made the mistake of watching Monster High out of curiosity.
It was about a derby or some shit.
Apparently a rival school stole something from the school that was making it fall apart or some shit, and they had to beat them to win it back and save the school.
Oh, and apparently they like broke a student who was also a robot.

Three girls that aren't humans really show up and begin hypnotizing the local school. Why school? Why not the government or the army or something else that actually matters? Who knows. And their method of hypnosis is...singing. Oookay. Another girl that isn't human really shows up and tries to get together a group of perfectly human (aside from that blue and yellow skin colors, amirite) girls she claims to be bestest of friends in another dimension. They choose to believe her without much hesitation. Allllright. And their method of counterattack to the three villains is...counter-singing! In the most tacky and ugly of outfits. Because there's apparently nothing better a girl can do in a situation like that. Then they grow tails, wings, and ears for some reason, which makes them stronger and more powerful somehow.

I didn't even watch the ending. I closed the player at this point, deleted the movie file, and ran CCleaner to wipe free space. Also deleted any mentions of EQG in my browser history.

So if I had to choose which is better - MH or EQG, I couldn't choose if my life depended on that. I tried watching MH and pretty much anything about that is worse, yet EQG hurts my brain more since it's like a parody of the original MLP show.

Both MH and EQG are utter shit not worth wasting my/your time watching.

Ever After High is the ripoff, but it's by the same company so it doesn't really count.

Well, you know. We aren't in the demo. They're trying to sell dolls here and the entirety of "Equestria Girls" is a toy commercial. MH is the same way. Neither show is meant to cater to adults or be anything all that great.

"Adventures in High School" is an over-saturated genre that spiraled out of control decades ago. High school kids don't generally do much of anything we as adults would recognize as very profound or deep, so nobody knows how to spice things up or make it interesting. It's a show about living in the fucking system, man. Every school is going to be pretty much the same except the ones where the kids are dealing drugs and using the illegal money buy guns and shoot each other.

Not really. High school kids haven't developed any skills or freedoms. The best way to make a series like that fun is to have school be a chunk of the day that's conspicuously missing from most episodes, and instead focus on wacky after school hijinks.

Take "Recess", for example. The entire thing was set in a school, but nearly every episode was during recess when the kids were up to hijinks and not being supervised. Or "Hey Arnold" - it's the same thing. All the cool stuff happened after school, and they only used school as a watering hole to gather up the main characters for the episode.

School itself is boring. In the US it's just a big prep thing for standardized tests that actually weaken a kid's education. Equestria Girls is in this very bizarre situation where there is a magical world full of wonderment and excitement, but it's off limits because that world is called My Little Pony and it's already a show. Instead, the movies are about the magical backdraft of the world the characters can never really touch. There's nothing too inherently interesting about Pony High School or the surrounding area.

Thing is though, EQG in terms of toyline is a spinoff of MY Little Pony....which is a different demographic than slutty tween dolls

Hasbro thought they could hawk some dolls to that crowd and while it won't make as much as their regular merch, they can still have at it. It's like using Transformers to go after the Tonka Truck/Playskool audience with Rescue Bots, Hasbro is the top of the toy spewing lot and if they can even attempt to sell shit to other demos they will even if those things aren't exactly going to take over their main brands completely

I will agree that they should have done EqG better than a literal ripoff of MH, but they are successfully branching out to being able to stand on their own
the minis are selling like hotcakes and the Shimmer ones are going for around triple the MSRP on amazon and ebay
they could easily make "show accurate" dolls with the mini heads as a base, rather than their current doll designs, which has obviously failed because they look more like half-assed female cosplayers seeking attention from con goers

When I got into pone, it was something different. There wasn't a show about ponies at the time (not counting the previous generations that were long dead and forgotten) so I didn't immediately discard it as trash. While EQG is so generic it screams TRASH a mile away. I did watch the trailers, but that's it. I just knew I couldn't stomach an entire movie. It was so bad.
