2011 comes around. I live around Pittsburgh and Anthrocon comes there every summer. Decided to check out some videos from the convention on YouTube and eventually came across one titled brony panel. Being unfamiliar with the term brony I watched the video to see two fursuiters as Rainbow Dash and Applejack dancing around in the front of the room. Scrolled through the comments until I learned MLP was still a thing and the names of the two ponies. Started looking for clips of Rainbow Dash because I liked her design better and wanted to see what the show was like. Decided to give it a try and watched the first two episodes. After barely getting through them decided to watch the next and found it much better and continued watching until I saw them all (season 2 hasn't begun at this time so it didn't take long). Fast forward 5 years and I'm still stuck on this ride and wouldn't have it any other way especially with the people I've met because of the shared interest of tiny horses.

All the pony threads that flooded /co/ and /b/ (I still used both boards at the time) caused me to take interest because I thought they were cute and laughed at how butthurt they made people. So I watched a few episodes and was hooked.

Still figured they were all a bunch of trolls but they posted the fist 2 episode links from youtube, so I tried watching one but didn't make it past the theme song.
Saw the threads a week or so later and saw the user has been banned and decided to see what was going on.
Ended up watching the first two episodes, then the 3rd and the 4th up to whatever episode was out at the time, maybe the 12th but I don't

/co/ was spamming ponies everywhere and i was really fucking bored and decided to give it a watch. That said, I stopped giving a shit about the show at the beginning of season 4 though and haven't watched a single episode of season 6.

In fall 2012 I was suffering from a severe depressive episode. I wound up in the hospital given the option to either move back in with my parents or be involuntarily committed because I was that much of a danger to myself.

I moved back in with my parents. I was laying in my room with Netflix running in the background because I knew that laying in bed and staring into space would cause more concern. It came up on my suggestions and I raised an eyebrow but put it on and laid back down. But I was listening and it was kind of...interesting. I started to half-heartedly watch. By the third episode I was watching with full interest, and over the next couple of days I marathoner all the episodes Netflix had up, two times. (I can't remember if it was seasons 1 and 2 or if it was season 1 with 2 being available shortly after).

When it was over I got out of bed and went to the store, and I bought some pencils and a sketchpad. I came home and I drew for the first time in 2 years, something I used to love. It gave me something *nice* to think about besides my fucked up life and it inspired me to MAKE something again.

I've been hooked ever since.

There are like no good slave stories and the only ones that come close are in the slave gen which is whiteknight general for those not in the know. Why did I stay? I am a fanfic aficianado, I can't stand the show, but I've been reading fanfiction of shows that are terrible since Sailor moon (and yes it is awful, though it crawls out of the toilet somewhere around the third or fourth arc). MLP as a show isn't that bad in principle, the writers fucked everything up constantly (the problem isn't any particular set of decisions I don't agree with but the shows alergy to setting and character consistancy) but the story basically involves episodic friendship lessons, which is cute and works well for the show. Unfortunately, I have watched enough rocket power in my life and no amount of a completely better tone and asthetic will change that fact. I can see the outcome of basically every episode and the formula grinds away at my nerves.

This is a good formula. BUT I HATE IT.

All things considered MLP is IN as far as the fanfiction community is concerned. It's reached the age where theres some finely aged wine here and there. I am not some kind of self important jackass to good to drink out of your watering hole. Especially since Zero no tsumaika/Sao the crossover on SB collapsed into a singularity and took the interest in writing more for ZnT along with it. Now everyones worshiping some other childrens book called worm. snore. Cry about fan of the fandumb all you want, the closest thing I'll ever sit through to an mlp episode is DWK's stuff and cute clips. I don't have the patience to sit through 25 minutes of second hand embarrassment.

The G1 series is about the same as other "girl's toys" cartoons were at the time, like "Care Bears" and "Monchichis". The curious thing about that show was that a lot of writers went on to be famous, like Linda Woolverton ("Beauty and the Beast"), David Wise (TMNT, "Mighty Ducks"), and Michael Reaves (B:TAS, "Gargoyles").

OTOH the pilot: "Rescue from Midnight Castle", is a cult classic.

I got in around season 4. A few of my college friends watched the show, and I decided one day to just shotgun it and marathon the show for a while. Hated it at first and then around Poison Joke, it started to become fun and made me laugh and enjoy it. Then the ride hooked me and now I draw horse puss.

I had several friends who liked the show, so I decided to give it a try. Funny story, but the first episode I watched, the episode tasked with convincing me that the show wasn't just a bunch of techicolor horses prancing about singing about how gosh-darn wonderful life is, was magical mystery cure.

I was not fucking impressed.

Thankfully I few more episodes later everything was groovy.
