My head cannon is that the pony race has been selectively bread by changlings to make them more loving. Changlings act as incubus and succubus. The turn into females and take the sperm from the most loving males then turn into males and impregnate the most loving females. They can even do this to married couples by pretending to be the husband or wife. Queen Bees and other species are able to store sperm so changlings may be able to do this as well.
