Neither was Thorax. I said it was a similar case, not the same. The Ponies believed them to be evil (less so for Luna) and that's where the point lies really. It's those kinds of experiences that can lead you to be a bit more open minded. There's also this >>28207186, it just felt odd to me he went to the guards rather than to his close friend Twilight who holds power of her own and potentially could have cleared things up right there.
When Spike did eventually tell Twilight, she trusted him. Couldn't he have done it earlier?

Why did he walk right into the throne room with thorax were armed guards were standing ready? He could've just pulled Twilight to the side and explained it to her alone. Then they would have a much stronger case for Thorax.

He's a baby dragon, sure, but this isn't some highly intellectual decision or something. Twilight is his friend, talking to her is far from a "how can you expect him to do that" moment. Even if he did want to talk to the guards first for, it's not like he couldn't have talked to her after the fact
He's young, but he's shown enough smarts in the series honestly

It would be, but then you have no episode. Think about, as of late these episodes have had ways to just straight up end any conflict they might have had. But why use them, when your solution does what it's supposed to. So instead they just don't use that solution to pad out the runtime, and then use the solution at the end, where it either doesn't make sense, or should have happened earlier.

I don't know if you realised, but Spike does tell Twilight at the end, he tells all of them and Twilight is the one who defends him. She doesn't say anything along the lines of a "mind trick" or "deception".
