How would you rate Friends Forever #31 out of 10 /mlp/?
>>
Richards' art was the highlight for sure.
>>
>>28181439
6/10 for art alone. Frankly cannot see this one selling too much. Story was basically nothing no, cliche "conflict" that was maybe one or two sentences between characters.
>>
>>28181439
Bland story, unfunny jokes, rushed ending and dumb "moral"

Awesome drawings if we ignore Fleec's pages though.

Later this month, or early next month, we should get Comic #45 concluding the Ponies of Dark Water arc:

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #45
>Thom Zahler (w) • Tony Fleecs (a & c) • Sara Richard (sc) • Thom Zahler (ric) • Heather Breckel (colors)
>“Ponies of Dark Water Part 3” Chaos reigns over Ponyville as normal ponies across town turn evil! It’ll be up to Spike and the Cutie Mark Crusaders, with the help of an unexpected ally, to save the day!
>>
>>28181423
This writing and dialogue is actually really good. I love that they remembered Celestia exists and acknowledge that she could fix all of this in an instant.

Also the running gag of them not hearing the last part of the sentence before RD flies away is golden.

Tony Fleecs wrote this? What other issues has he written?

Next month we get Friends Forever #32 featuring Fluttershy and Daring Do:

My Little Pony: Friends Forever #32
>Ted Anderson (w) • Jay Fosgitt (a & sc) • Tony Fleecs (mc)
>The shiest pony who’s ever shied, Fluttershy, meets the most adventurous adventurer ever: Daring Do! When the two embark on a perilous journey together it may be up to Fluttershy to teach Daring Do the meaning of bravery!
>>
>>28181439

Comfy story, excellent gags and funny, thoughtful dialogue. I'll definitely be picking this one up if I see it in my comic shop.

>A original My Little Pony chapter book featuring one of Twilight Sparkle's most notorious pupils!
>>
>>28181453
>I love that they remembered Celestia exists and acknowledge that she could fix all of this in an instant.

Shame she's just shipbait for IDW.

Lastly we get The Dragons on Dazzle Island next month, this time I'm sure of it, on September 6th:

The Dragons on Dazzle Island
>by Mary Jane Begin (Artist)
>Rarity's entire order of rare island gemstones has been canceled because the Great Dragon Migration has brought dragons to Dazzle Island! But all hope is not lost as Fluttershy and Spike travel to the island and explain to the dragons why they need to move. When our heroes reach Dazzle Island, they discover that it'll take more than a few words to resolve Rarity's problem!
>Ready your hooves as you travel with Fluttershy and Spike to confront new dangers, help a fellow pony gain her cutie mark, and learn the true power in hugs!

The writing was almost better than the art.

Why is he not writing more issues? The fuck? Take him off of art now. An issue written by him and illustrated by Brenda. Price or Mebberson would be fucking nice.

>>28181496
Yeah, I wish that could happen. He can write pretty decently, he'd be a good asset.

I guess he wanted to try and do an entire issue himself.

Fleec's is weird there are times when his art is really good like the Tirek comic and others where it's utter shit like the EQG specials.

I liked it. nice story, and good art.

I do kind of wonder if dash giving a lock of her hair was supposed to have some sort of importance though :/

Seems kind of random.
>>
>>28181587
How he stays employed when he's so hated by the customer base baffles me.
>>
>>28181401
Not him but yeah, I recognize when he traces. It's reminiscent of Traceponies way back.
>>
>>28181597
He half asses his comic work and then does decent commissions.
>>
>>28181439
6/10

Great art, story's a bit meh. Like the bonding the two had at the end.

So yeah, it's an FF.
>>
>>28181430
The same Little Strongheart who's forgotten by literally everyone was actually pretty interesting.
And Dash was very good as a more classical protagonist. She probably got more to do in this issue than in the last two seasons of the show. And the interaction was fine. FF is not supposed to be anything special so this one was way above average.
Rainbow Crow is like Thunderbird I assume?
>>
Last month's sales figures are partially out.

#44 sold 14,974 copies despite of all the blatant shilling.

Can you remember when the comic selling 24,000 copies was seen as a low sales number?
>>
>>28181597
>Baffled why he's still there

Not really. Greg Land still "draws" for Marvel even though he's controversially disliked for being an unrepentant tracer, Ramondelli does stuff for IDW despite having less than stellar style than the other artists.

Fogsitt must come cheap, or that they don't really care because his style sells to toddlers.
>>
>>28181650
>despite the blatant shilling

what?
>>
>>28181591
It's a bird so I guess she liked the unusual color and wanted it in her nest.
I like how she gently complimented her mane. First time anyone said something like that.
>>
>>28181510
>Fleec's is weird there are times when his art is really good
That's when he blatantly traces from TV screencaps.
>>
>>28181650
Still decent sales.
>>
Not to be a shit starter, but I found this to be awful. Certainly not the worst yet, but the writing was so exposition heavy and the 'action scenes' were barely worth the panel space. It makes you wonder why they are even there. The 'lesson' was also very heavy handed even for a kids comic which also brings notice to the word choices. Sure fancy words like luminance sound good in a legend style retelling, although I think the writer meant to put luminescence and got autocorrected, but who in the target audience is going to know that word?

I had to stop reading it about half way, then read the other half after seeing a bunch of people saying it was actually good. Frankly, I don't see it.
>>
>>28181670
Honestly without the few pages of good art there wouldn't be much. Fleecs textwalled a bit.

>>
>>28181648
>And Dash was very good as a more classical protagonist.

Kind of wish we could get that done more; her best episodes are ones like wonderbolt academy where they treat her in a more "normal", nuanced light and she gets to act kind of mature.

Too often the writers default to being lazy and cranking up her cuntness to maximum, like 28 pranks later.
>>
>>28181674
Yeah, Sarah Richards easily made the best part of the comic (pages 5-9)
>>
>>28181452

>>
>>28181990
>going to buy physical copy of this!
If I weren't storytiming all of them I'd likely buy physicals instead. I know that Daring Do collection, which I still sadly haven't finished reading yet, is really nice looking in that chest.
>>
>>28181663

The Tirek issue with Young Tirek and such, there's nothing to trace from, he just drew solidly. he can totally do it if he puts the effort and time in, it's just he doesn't for a lot of issues.
>>
>>28181708
>not knowing the difference between trace and reference

The lines don't match up you tard.
>>
>>28181439
++ interesting lore with good art
++ rd being herself (silly listener, hardly to learn after mistake)
+ lampshade hanging (why not applejack though? the shield thing on apple bloom cutie mark)
- the FF is about interaction between showcased two characters and there was hardly any, not to mention the conflict which was HARDLY existing
- deus ex machina with crow, it could be something corny about friendship as always
- tracing!!!

Aw shit, I love creation myths like that. Crows are awesome.
I wonder if this is an actual legend in some way, it feels too authentic for Tony Fleecs to have come up with it himself.

You can't tell me he's suddenly able to draw so accurately like that and then fuck things up on the next panel, especially Little SH's legs which were supposed to be thin and pointy while Fleecs drew them almost exactly like a pony's.

Better an story where nothing will happens than an bad ending. I think is neat when characters notice RD's rainbow hair, like in the cookies episode.
So 5 for art and 3 for simple story.
>>
>>28190812
These comics tend to do best when they're simple, small stories. I don't think there's been an adventure arc that everyone's actually liked so far, but stuff like the micros, some one shot comics, and certain Friends Forevers have done pretty well.
>>
>>28190845
Yes.
The only issue that I have with some comics are wall of text ruining the page like this >>28181423 .

Might be. If you read the Celestia chapter book, it actually shows us Celestia's daily ritual of raising the sun. And afterwards..

"Gratias ad solis ortum," the princess recited as she bowed deeply to the sun. "Thank you for allowing me to guide you, and thank you for another day of light."
>>
>>28194758
As much as I love the books, sometimes (like with this one) like the comics, and wish they deliberately connected them at times, I doubt that's the case here. Nice observation though.
